Tom
Simpson sent a lengthy memorandum to the Royal Aberdeen which, after praising the quality of the site, added this sweet talking phrase:
"At the present moment however there are many grave defects which we will enumerate."
After doing so, in great detail, he proposed that he remedy those defects at a cost of £2,335, and offered this humble and upbeat conclusion:
"Both in the interests of the Club and our own interests we hope that the council will not take the view that they can carry out work themselves from this report and our conversation on the ground. A satisfactory results woulde not be obtained. Only one club has attempted to do that and the result was a dismal and costly failure distressing to all parties."
Needless to say the council did not need that admonition.
I wonder what club Simpson was referring to in the last sentence of his report? Do you know?
