Photos That Give You Butterflies.....
« on: August 03, 2009, 07:14:15 PM »
It can be of a serene moment, a candid photo after a special round or shot, a professional pic or straight off a camera-in-a-box.....

I love photo threads and while looking for a new background for my computer I came across the following photo that stirs my golfing soul just to look at it. I've never been there, but hope to visit sometime in the not too distant future. I can't even imagine what this sight must feel like standing there in person........

What's your most soul-moving picture?

Soul-moving photo for sure, whether you've been there or not.  I hope you get the opportunity to see it in person as it is an amazing sight to behold.  In reality, the soul-stirring comes hours before this scene - about the time you cross over the ridge that reveals the golf course in its entirety.

I have to give some thought before I rush to post my soul-stirring photo.  I can think of many of my own photos that remind me of a moment on the golf course that gives me butterflies, but I think it is a cooler idea to find someone else's photo of a course you've never played that really gets you going.  I probably need only review a few threads with some of Aidan's photos to find mine.

Not to quibble, but aren't butterflies usually equated with nervousness (i.e., butterflies in the stomach)?

This shot of mine always gives me a nervous excitement. It's my current desktop background - the ground level version of the 17th. A friend in the group shot it during a 40+ gust on my trip last year. I love the shot because it always takes me right back to feeling the wind, squeezing a wedge, and tossing a prayer up in that wind.

Adam, I like your photo because it gives the view from the tee, not from the spot higher up and further back. I was surprised that 17 played uphill, and after seeing so often the awesome photo leading off this thread, I expected a downhill shot. Your photo really does look WINDY.

Mike, long time partner! I've been waiting on you to give these boys the lowdown on Toronto G.C. I know I told you this but when we played it started sunny, rained in the middle, and the wind started during the home stretch. It was unbelievable to compare the calm vs. big wind during a round. My aim on 17 was for the dead center of the back right trap, but when I went to swing a gust almost blew me over and I pull-shanked the damned ball over the back-left of the green  8)

I have yet to play there but every time I look at this course profile on this site, this picture makes me want to play Fishers Island over any other course.  I know that might sound stupid, but for some reason the fast and firmness of Fishers Island looks sooo appealing to me.

And the picture of the eden looks like the best par 3 ever.  Hit the green or else!

Never more nervous than the morning of round 1 of the 5th Major...

As for soul stirring...

I have posted this one before.  While I likely have better photos, none are as sure to send chills down my spine.  Taken from behind the 18th green at Shinnecock with the setting sun giving way to emerging fog.

The complimentary flags make this my favorite. This parkland course that was smack dab in the middle of playing both coasts of Scotland was a real treat.

How about a strip of sunlight for the flag hunters?

I don't have a pic handy -- maybe somebody can post one for me, but approaching the Ballyneal sign always gets the blood pumping for me.  It's like Cialis for the soul.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner Chip!!
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Strictly from a photography technique standpoint, most of the pictures posted so far do a pretty good job of following the rule of thirds for composition.  Coincidence?

Cheers,
Brad
