Golf Week; I like the way they rate their courses the best; even though I have only played about 10 of the Top 100 on each list.

There is an underground magazine that I read daily called Breast and Golf that does a good job; their list is a little more out there though.

Chart Hills (world #5) is about right.  ;) ;D

No seriously Mark, Golf is my personal favorite ranking.  I like their choice for #100 U.S. the best.

Eric,

You ever make it to Atlanta?  Plan a drip down here so we can play some golf.

In that case I am partial to Golfweek's classic list!

I would like to hear more also. I googled this and found nothing. I did not delve deeply into the search, but it was not front page news.

Golfweek and Golf.  GD has become the "Top 100 Clubhouses to Visit"

It seems the best way to get in the Golf Digest Top 100 ranking is to to have a private, Tom Fazio designed course and "National" in the club's name. ;D

This is like asking a group of Muslims which religious text they prefer.  The answer is rather pre-ordained.

This is a Golfweek forum, always has been, always will be.  So if the answer here is less than 95% in favor of golfweek I will indeed be surprised.

However, ask this question of 1000 real world golfers, and I'd guess at least 750 would say Golf Digest.

So... what is the purpose of this thread?

Oh I get it... more Golf Digest bashing from this fine group of purists.  Cool.  It's been about 20 threads since that last occurred.

 ;)

I used to go w/ GD.  However, how is it possible that Ballyneal DID NOT make their top 100?  in my estimation, excluding Ballyneal just calls into question their entire list.

I think Golf Magazine is the only one with a top 100 world ranking, so I'll go with that one.  I also think it's pretty good.  I like Golfweek's as well.  Golf Digest's has some head-scratchers, but as I mentioned here in the past, I think it's a function of their methodology as opposed to their raters.  I hear that there may be a fourth Top 100 coming soon.

Speaking of Golf Mag, I believe their 2009 ranking will be coming out soon (I think the 2007 version came out in the Sept 07 issue).

Tom,

My intention for this thread was not to bash Golf Digest or any other publication, rather it was to simply hear people's thoughts on which publication's rankings mirrored their own.

When someone tells me they played a Top 100 course, my first though is always Golf Digest.  I enjoy the "Best in State" lists as well.

The rankings stimulate discussion, which is a good thing.

Not every thread on this forum is to bash Golf Digest! :)

I am sure it's not your intent, Mark.
However, my comments stand, and the responses are proving it.  Stick around awhile more, you'll see.

The main point is I was just trying to save you some bother.  Just figure 95%+ of the responses on here tend toward GD sucks, GD rules... or something to that effect.

Tom,

At least a certain golf club near Traverse City, MI has not been mentioned yet!

I agree with you Golf Digest's list sets the standards, remember you take a lot more shots when you are #1.  Just ask Wal-Mart or McDonalds.

I find that it depends on which list we are talking about.

When it comes to National lists, the big 3's lists usually looks pretty good.  But when it comes to the state lists, I think all of them have gone off the deep end.  I've yet to see a "state list" for anywhere I've lived that wasn't laughable...and this also seems to be true from what others say about them too.

To drastically oversimplify the issue, I put little stock in publications that fail to identify Ballyneal as a Top 100 course in the categories for which it qualifies.

You have a soul brother in Jim Tang, or so it would seem.

I'd remind each of you of the words once sung by the great Michael Jackson ("on bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl") but I wouldn't expect you to take any heed.  Logic rarely flows well with fanaticism.

I fancy a blend of Golfweek and Golf Magazine.

Have no use for GD
