"I was just there yesterday and thank God I faced neither of these shots."
Tom Huckaby

Kevin, that's the insane back back tee on 12, correct?  Note we did NCGA course rating yesterday and the club told us said tee (and the crazy 505 one on 5) would NOT be used outside of high-level competion.  That is, for member play the black tee boxes would go no longer than 457 on 5 and 415 on 12.  The black tee ratings are based on these.  A separate "USOpen tee" rating will be given later, to accomodate for these tees.

In any case, the proper captions should be:

a) "I'm f*cked"
b) "so much for curving the ball"

Did you come up with a bogey value of 10 for the trees?  From the picture it looks like you have both a squeeze and chute adjustment.

Bob - if it is the one I am thinking of (kinda hard to tell, believe it or not there might be one even behind this) we didn't rate that tee, as the club assured us it would not be used outside of very high-level competition.  Thus they will get yardage only adjustment for the very back tee (eventually).  But yes, you are right on on what it would entail - and may well have entailed from the regular back tee (I don't know, I only did front nine).  It's pretty crazy tight.

Note though, this is the ONLY example of such at OClub Lake.  No other tee shots are close to this bad.  Oh we had one chute on front nine (forget which hole) ... but nothing crazy.  The issue at OClub is no longer the trees (although ratings will come out pretty high still for such).. issue is FAIRWAY.  Every single one got very high numbers for each player.. due to widths that rarely got over 25 yards in either landing area, combined with +W adjustment due to ground slopes.  It is a great test of accurate driving and the course rating system accounts for this well.

Yeah, I played with board member JAL  (and his father-in-law) yesterday and we played the regular blue tees, but I had Joel tee one up back there for photo purposes.  His drive got past the "gatekeeper" trees, but faded and ended up in the trees on the right.

He should have hit one from the blacks on #5...Joel crushed his drive from the blues and had a very short shot to the green.  Long hitter.

Joel is 6'6", so his long arms helped on the bunker shot (on #11), and he got the ball onto the green...a great shot.

Kevin - you were THERE YESTERDAY and we didn't communicate?  Oh man, my bad for sure... dammit we should have at least had a beer.  Oh well.

And yeah, pretty sure #6 was the one with the chute.

How did you miss us NCGA guys riding around, btw... we all have the same silly uniforms and had clipboards, etc....

You've got to be kidding...I played 36.  10:40 and 4:10.  Didn't see anyone out of the ordinary.

Can you drink beer in uniform?  :)

Fun fact is that I birdied both of those holes.*

The fried egg was crazy, it was in so deep and the face was so steep that I couldn't see the ball unless I leaned over the bunker until I lost my balance.  But I did get it out in one shot, although not onto the green.  Sadly that shot was one of my few highlights.

Many thanks to Mr. Reilly for graciously showing my father-in-law around the course and allowing myself to get into such predicaments.

Damn do I have long legs.

* On my way to a 59.  From the black tees.

What a lost opportunity.. darn it.

At 10:40 as you were on 1 tee, I was likely on 9 or 18 (we did 18 also as it took the other guys longer to do rating stuff for back nine).  We were then in grill room from 11:15 to 12 or so... teed off 1 at 12:30... at 4:10 I was likely on 17th hole.

So we were on opposite sides of the course all day!

And no, no beer drinking in uniform.. but once the playing part is done the official visit is over.. and I had other clothes.

At what point here did I indicate it was a negative in any way shape or form?

It was great.  I just mentioned the uniforms because we are pretty noticeable all dressed the same.. and I figured Kevin would have seen us.

Strike two.  One more and you're out.
