US Open 2010-Pebble Beach Golf Links
« on: June 24, 2009, 12:53:20 PM »
Watching the US Open at Bethpage this past weekend and listening to Johnny Miller, he stated or Dan Hicks, that there has been several changes done at Pebble Beach.  And they stated that Arnold Palmer Golf Course Design is heading the direction of the renovations there.  Just wanted to make sure that this is correct.

And if so it is Arnold palmer, how did they come upon Arnie to be incharge of the work at Pebble.

I think Arnie is one of the owners of Pebble Beach, along w/ Clint Eastwood.

That would be correct.  Peter Ueberroth is also in the group.

So it's not hard to imagine there wasn't exactly a bidding process for this work.

They are supposed to lengthen it some. The USGA groove rule will be in effect for that Open. Presumably, all the players will get spinning ball religon by then, and they will have to complain about the added length. ;)

Someone posted a few pictures a while back of work done to #6.  Changed the fairway bunkering up a little I do believe.

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Yeah, although the fact that they chose Arni over Clint is a real shock ;D
