Old White Greenbrier aftermath
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:30:07 AM »
I enjoyed the telecast, the course and its surrounds a lot.

Clearly, the scoring will be at least one of the long range "issues".  If the event was held in the Fall (yes, I know after the FedEx Cup), wouldn't the conditions be firmer and faster?  Fall colors in the surrounds would look nice also.

What else?

Hold it the week after the US Open: the one week of the year you can be sure no one - players or fans - will complain about too many birdies being made!

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised to see so many of those pros score that low on The Old White but I think the fact is clear that if you give those guys that kind of receptive conditions on greens they will go low no matter the golf course.

If it was held after the FedEx Cup, the event wouldn't be as successful -- playing conditions or not.

Considering the Greenbrier is something of a destination -- i.e. not in a metro area -- having at after school resumes would hurt gallery size and it would also impact quality of the field.
