Bethpage - Are we missing some trees?
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:04:22 PM »
At first I thought it was my imagination; but, now I'm not so sure.  Did they or did they not remove all the trees along the left side of the first fairway to accomodate hospitality tents and bleachers?

They were dying and they said they were a safety hazard. Too bad, they really framed the hole nicely.

click on the flyover of the first hole and you will see that the trees are gone and there are tents in that area.

I don't think tree removal is any way related to corporate tents, but they are definitely gone.  Also heard the dead/dying excuse, not sure I'm buying it.

Derrick,

The trees on the 1st hole on the outer curve were not dying. They were also not removed for corporate tents or other reasons, but for the same reason that the trees behind the 4th were removed, that is to to make the frame of reference more challenging for the player. (I am not saying that I agree with this reason).

The large tree guarding the right corner died and was removed last year.

The trees were a frame of reference?  I guess the water tower has been removed too! :-)

Those were beautiful trees.

Bethpage needed more challenge ???(the frame of reference hazard always gets me)
Glad they were able to put in some more bunkers on the course as well (because they're so native to inland Long Island) ::) ::)
heck, why not take out all the trees and make #1 a par 3?(or golly a driveable par 4 cause that's cool) ----sort've a hole #7 par slashing solution /Mike Davis wet dream)

or they could just go play the course...

I don't know, I saw an interview with Craig Currier on Newsday and the specific reason he gave for those trees being removed was because they were weak and a saftey hazard.

Especially if they fell on a tent
