Know this course? Hacienda Pinilla (Mike Young)
« on: June 02, 2009, 05:00:31 PM »
Do you know this golf course?  How about the architect?

Care to guess?

Gotta run. I'll check in later to see if you need some clues.

3 hours in, no one has guessed, I think we need some clues.

I'm guessing it's John Kavanaugh's debut offering... :)

I like the fact that at least some of the bunkers look eager to swallow up errant offerings.

I would guess it's

A. modern era
B. near the coast (you can see ocean in the background)
C. Vegetation looks mainland, I don't think this is in Hawaii

I'd guess something in California....

Mike Young's Hacienda Pinilla?

Its a boomerang green and looks interesting but are the 3 tiers really needed?   I would love to know how deep that bunker is.

Apparently a short par 3 hole so the green looks fine - challenging for a short iron.

I'm a bit dubious about the length of that rough though.  Not sure Dr Mackenzie would approve!

Oh no, not the entire green complex Bill,  I was referring to the bunker itself and Joel's thought about it's depth.

Adam above nailed it.  He's at the Univ. of Georgia isn't he? Good job Adam!

It is Mike Young's Hacienda Pinilla on the coast of Costa Rica. http://www.haciendapinilla.com/golf/ourgolfcourse.htm

I asked Mike today about taking a group down there, possibly in the fall, early winter.  I think it would be a blast.  Direct flights from ATL, a 45 minute drive and you're playing golf and drinking mojitos.

Mike the course looks very natural and very beautiful in these pics.  Well done!

I don't recognize the architect nor site, not topical, ocean or lake, mountain in the background, maybe an island
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Oh man it was so funny.  Mike hit his tee shot into that deep front bunker there at 17 Longshadow. The rest of us were on the green, you couldn't see him down in there from the putting surface. We're waiting for a ball to appear, waiting...waiting...then here comes a sand wedge flying out of there up into the sky, landing on the collar. Never saw a ball.  A moment or two later Mike trudges up onto the green, grabs his wedge and walks on over to the 18th.  We weren't laughing then, but man I know he was pissed.  He went on to win 18 and beat me 1 up, so he had the last laugh.  A good guy. I don't think he posts anymore on here.
