If the front pad is not maintained as green, AND the front pad is not firm and fast.....then what is the purpose?  Does it qualify as Biarritz?

I played it today and honestly if there was no way to "run" it in.

That is a conditioning issue that is commonplace in the US.  Aside from Fishers Island, I have never seen a fringe length front section maintained firmly enough.  This is the reason why they need to be maintained as green these days.  As for PRC, they seem to like the course maintained lush green.

My theory on this is that those holes played fine as they were designed, at any height of cut, when they were young.

But as turf grass ages it just slows down from density and from just being old and healthy. So cut it down to green height and let it roll like it was designed.

Just my 2 cents.
