Where do you get your fix?
« on: May 25, 2009, 10:40:03 AM »
Apart from GCA, where do you go for your fix of golf industry news?
And while I'm at it, how many of you still rely on (or prefer) the lathery texture of a well-produced magazine rather than the digital aloofness of the net.

Geoff Shackelford's blog (www.geoffshackelford.com) provides a good mixture of general golf news and more industry related stuff. Geoff's trademark snarky commentary is the frosting on the cake.

A UK based Golf Forum for me (www.modsquadgolf.com). A varied group who all enjoy a game without taking it too seriously. I've stopped buying golf magazines; there's only so many times you can read cure your slice/tips for extra distance/how to get out of bunkers/never 3 putt again!

By far the best one is Will Smith and Colin Sheehan's blog/company website: http://punchbowlgolf.com/

Tom Dunne's new site is very good as well: www.http://out-and-back.net/

For my putter addiction: www.cameroncollector.com

Ian Andrew's new blog:  http://weirgolfdesign.com/

Great UK site: http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/index.asp

The mysterious RedanMan: http://redanman.blogspot.com/

And of course Geoff's site is a must

Cannonball it!!!

Oh sorry, wrong forum...
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I hate to be the obligatory curmudgeon that always pipes up but what the heck...I don't need any golf industry news at all. Any really important trends or circumstances of wide and long-term impact will no doubt be beaten to death on this forum. And I know a good pro if I need a lesson, any equipment I need can be ordered through our proshop and I get a newsletter that tells me what's up with my home course.

So that doesn't leave much call for magazines or weblogs or television. Most of what I need to know about golf is right in front of me every weekend when I play and the rest I can usually dig up around here if I'm planning a big trip of some kind.

P.S. And I've resolved to totally ignore Rules and Equipment issues since we all beat the same dead horses (distance, length of courses, expense, yada, yada) to no particular enlightenment.

There aren't very many golf message boards that still let me post (yeah, you hear me CameronCollector...).  ;)  Bless you GCA!

Other than that, I hit Golfweek online for just about everything.

An interesting little site run by Andy Brown on http://www.homeofgolf.tv/ will give you some news and information from time to time. Worth checking out - this week a short video on the London Golf Show 2009. Last clip I watched was the Dunvegan Hotel report in St Andrews - again enjoyable little clip and a reminder of your trip to St Andrews.
