Last auction items to benefit Bob Labbance family New
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:23:25 PM »
If this thread is deemed inappropriate or overly commercial I'll gladly take it down. But I wanted to follow up and thank everyone who generously donated to last year's Bob Labbance Family Fund to aid the immediate relatives of our architecture colleague.

With the support of the entire golf industry and especially the support of architecture-specific groups, including GCA, we did an amazing job raising mone -- 99% of which went to the family.

Bob, who died last August of complications from Lou Gehrig's disease, was a wonderful student of the game. The 17 books he wrote/co-wrote and left behind for us are a trove of insight into the micro-history of architecture and maintenance.

A few items remain that had gone unsold, and I'd like to take a second to urge anyone to write me at my email address (igolfbadly@aol.com) for a bid, based upon the minimum indicated. We'll keep this open for five days and finalize the private auction Wednesday night, April 22, at 11 p.m. EST.

Please don't email me unless it's to inquire about an item or to bid. Donations are still being taken (via check only) to Bob Labbance Family Fund, P.O. Box 53, Bloomfield, Ct. 06002.

Items will be mailed out immediately following the close of the bidding. We'll close the account and disburse all remaining funds within a few days after the last checks are received, say by May 15.

1. Framed, mounted 3' x 3' color photograph of Tobacco Road, 16th hole, signed by architect Mike Strantz (sold for $275).

2. Golf for twosome at Fairmont Manoir Richelieu, Quebec, Canada: includes one overnight room, breakfast and round of golf. Valid through Oct. 15, 2009. (min. $200)

3. Golf for foursome at The Golf Course at Glen Mills, Penn. Valid through June 23, 2009. (sold for $300)

4. Two hardcover, slip-cased sets of books by A. W. Tillinghast, "The Mutt" and "Cobble Valley Golf Yarns and Other Sketches." (Each of two sets of two books to be auctioned, sold @ $125)

5. Three remaining specially-made-for-the-occasion logoed "Labbance National" golf hats that were handed out at the June 23, 2008 fund-raiser to attendees. (min. $25 each)

6. Garden City Golf Club commemorative history, 75th anniversary edition (1974). (sold for $200)

Thanks.

And we've added the Garden City Golf Club 75th anniversary history book just now, as well.
