I really hope the Committee would stop inviting this cry baby and teach him a lesson for good!  McCord's comments were not direct yet he got banned.

Golf needs people who say what they think, whether we agree or not.I have a problem with a canned apology. There is some truth in what he said (at least truth as to him bordering on a self-fulfilling prophecy).

Why does  golf need that?
When you go to someone's house for dinner, do really need to rip the host if it's not to your taste?
Sergio just needs to play a bit better....and grow up.
a canned apology is better than no apology-good for him

There is a difference between being honest and being respectful and Sergio has a repeated habit of showing very little respect such as in this case to Augusta. I think Augusta deserves plenty of criticsm at times but to say what he said on their property during the Masters shows how little respect Sergio has for Augusta and the game.

If it were a one time thing you could accept the apology and move on but he has a habit of this and I have pretty much lost all respect for him.

One of the great things about golf is the interesting people involved, both at the pro level and all others(including this board.)I am not suggesting an Academy Awards political opinion from everyone, but this was a media event and his comments related to golf. Not saying I agree, but I would rather hear whats on his mind. The real problem is someone is hogging the world's teleprompters.

Mike,

I'm all for players speaking their minds, however, we don't need the snot nosed punk Garcia saying the course was unfair.  How obscene!!

I enjoy players speaking their minds, but they (GARCIA) need to realize that golf is just about the only sport left on this planet with any integrity.  They need to recognize and protect that.  It's part of what makes this game so great.

Do you think he apologizes for his comments if it's any other tournament than the Masters?  NO...period!  He (IMG) "apologized" because he knows there's a real possibility of not being invited back.  I would love to see it happen.

I will admit that it would be fun to watch one of the young rednecks teach him a little respect.Wonder how Augusta would let the announcers call the fight?

Sergio seems to be the mental midget of the day in golf.

If he really meant what he said, he would simply never return to Augusta for tournament play.

Fat chance that happening.

Gee, what a surprise! An immature fellow with poor impulse control walks off the course after playing poorly, gets a microphone shoved in his face and makes an ass of himself by saying the course sucks. Isn't that a bit of the old "dog bites man" by now?

I think the apology was sufficient for the offense. On to the next manufactured outrage...

In reference to Sergio is that an oxymoron?  Sergio is one of those players that I find myself rooting for but shouldn't.  He always has an excuse.  I played in the morning and it was windy, I played in the afternoon and conditions were tougher than for Tiger, I got a lousy tee time, my caddy blew it, etc. etc. etc.  Class is not defined by Mr. Garcia.

"When you go to someone's house for dinner, do really need to rip the host if it's not to your taste?"

jeffwarne:

Definitely you do. Around here---Philly----the City of Brotherly Love, it is almost a requirement that you rip your host's house even if you find nothing wrong with it. Ripping the host himself or herself is just fine too---even the cooking or the children. Around here we live under the Credo articulated close to 50 years ago by the great social observer and social critic, Dring Wetherill (Uber Deb, Fernanda's brother).

Dring's social credo was articulated by him thusly: "If you can't deck your friend, who can you deck?"

When we go out to dinner at our friends' houses and we don't rip them to shreds in various ways I think they might begin to wonder if we really are their friends.

Apparently ANGC does not live by the great social observer and social critic, Dring Wetherill's articulated social credo!

I think Sergio is simply frustrated.  No excuse for the whining, but his frustration shows with all of his excuses.  He has that 'no major' tag riding on his back, and it gets heavier after every major he doesn't win.  I am not so sure it doesn't affect his mental performance in majors, he tries to hard when he is in contention.

Regardless of what Sergio said, is it really a good thing (as it seems some posts are intimating it is) that the Bethpage "patrons" are likely to behave as though they're at a Yankees game?
