I Can't Believe There is No Masters Pool Here
« on: April 12, 2009, 10:49:23 AM »
So I'll start one.  Who do you think will win today?  How many guys actually think Tiger might win from seven shots back?

I have the disadvantage of not having seen any of the first three days' play, so I don't know much about current form.  But I'll take Chad Campbell, just for fun.

I hope Perry wins today and I think he will.

Hard to believe only Zach Johnson has won outside the final group in the last 18 years. I would think the good weather gives somebody a shot but hard to see both Perry and Cabrera stumbling badly.

I'll pick Todd Hamilton as a former Major winner --doubly exciting to have someone win without CBS ever showing one of his shots.

Well, Cabrera has three rounds in the 60's so far and is striking the ball beautifully....the only thing that may keep him from winning is that goofy looking grip on his putter. I like the winner to come out of the final group.  I think 6 under is too far back.

hear a lot of "tiger or the field" questions. given the last two winners i'm more curious about the "sneaky long or the field" question. in other words will it be a sneaky long, wedge master or one of the bomb and gouge players?

this brings up a lot of definitional questions, but my baseline description is Mike Weir, Trev Immelman, and Zach Johnson.

Tiger

Most of the guys on the leader board are going to choke today. We saw a lot of boggies at the end of the day yesterday. That will continue today.

Tiger only has to shoot 5 under today to win it all, and he'll pick up most of his birdies on 11-16.

I am rooting for Cabrera, assuming Mickelson is too far back.  What are the early weather reports?  I am stuck in a cold downpour, which is tremendous weather for cooking ham and watching the Tournament.

Tiger won't win shooting 67, he might win shooting 64. If he only gets it to 9 under, he needs 3 players to shoot over-par (2 of those needing to shoot +3 or worse) and another 5 or 6 players needing to shoot level par. For Tiger to have a chance, he needs to take it to -12, AND he needs to shoot 33 on the front to really get those guys to pucker. Count me in on this one, -12 or better will win today.

Perry.

It's more than driving but he's been driving it well, and if you don't drive... you don't arrive.
Plus he's a decent putter.

El Pato will rule.  I loved seeing him win at Oakmont, he is a swashbuckler and fun to watch. I predict gambling success down the stretch.

Thank heavens for Digital Video Recorders.  We have an Easter dinner to attend, then I'll come home, turn on the DVR, fast forward through the commercials, and quack quack, watch El Pato at work.

If Chad Campbell starts sticking iron shots like he is capable of, who knows?  I fear Tiger and Phil have dilly dallied too long to get in the hunt.

However, I confidently predict the TV coverage will still be "All Tiger All the Time."  ;D

I'll take Jim Furyk.  I thought Campbell and Perry started to gag towards the end yesterday.

Tom - Perry for me.  One of the better sub-plots will be the Phil/Tiger pairing.  that pairing will easily get more air time then the leaders.  JC

How about Furyk?

I think Kim can make a charge, as indeed can Woods and Mickelson.

I'd love Tiger and Phil to start off with 3 birdies to really scare the players ahead of them.

I love Cabrera....I bet the big Argentine eats a slab of red meat and bottle of malbec every night and washes it down with cigar...he hits it a mile and has a silky putting stroke (read: Oakmont).  No shrink, no swing coach, etc....a breath of fresh air to the sterile PR coached guys out there in my opinion.  He won the US Open and didn't join the PGA Tour just to cash in....truly plays the globe.  I like the guy, he is a real guy.  Reminds me what the Euro tour and US tour probably used to be like...
