So why is 16, 17, and 18 at Sawgrass included again?  Oh, because its a challenge.  If that's the criteria, why not 16, 17, and 18 at Carnoustie?  If its not difficulty but instead ability to swing a tournament, why not 15, 16, and 17 at TOC?

The non-US courses seemed severely underrepresented, I was going to call them out for not naming any until they threw in a token couple at the end of the list.  Blah.

I also think that the writer's view of 4-6 on Bethpage Black is wrong. Both 10-12 and 15-17 are better stretches than 4-6.

The stretch of 11-13 at Merion is as good as it gets. These holes are potential birdie holes to a 18 hndcpr or a sure bogey to a tour pro who puts it in the wrong spot. Holes that just grab you despite being of very modest length.                            Jack

11-13 at Arcadia Bluffs
16-18 at Oakland Hills South and
1-3 at Bandon Trails

are three strong stretches of three not mentioned above.  Each includes a Par 3, 4 and 5 and includes the potential for birdies as well as disasters along the way (assuming you consider 18 at Oakland a par 5, which I do).
