There was a thread on this not too long ago.  Search experts, please find.

And yes it is just rumor... it's Finchem talking about how he'd like to make it happen... no word from CPC or its members.  My bet is they are just fine NOT having the unwashed masses invade their course.

Wait, you have solved time travel ... you are quoting an article dated in the future (assuming you mean March 30, 2009) ;) ... perhaps they meant to date the article April 1, 2009 ...

Forget about the unwashed masses. If I were them, I would be against Augusta Nationalizing the course.

Yet another reason NOT to host a PGA event, Garland.  Good point.

I just don't see what's in this for Cypress at all... they sure as hell need neither money nor exposure.. if hosting a Tour event generates money (I have no idea if it does)....

Seriously,if you were a CPC member, why would you want to do this?

Atruism?  If so, in favor of whom?  Charities that might benefit?

I don't think so.  What a disaster that would be.

Mark - curious -what kind of disaster are you thinking of?

Pros shooting 58s?
People destroying course?
Club bastardizing/lengthening course in an attempt to prevent 58s?
All of the above?

What?

Nope, just members and people with access having it for themselves!

Mine! Mine!

Time to make Pine Valley and CPC National Parks. Public access for minimal fee. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Where is everybody? Where is Tommy N? Where is John K? Where is Jay F? What has happened here? Has my absence caused this chaos? I'm sorry. All my rowdy friends have settled down ......... somewhere else!

Tom,
I don't care about the 58s but unfortunatley someone else will.  My fear is what they might do in the way of changes to the golf course.  I love CP and am fortunate to get to play it quite often.  It is one of those courses that having a tour event would not be positive for the golf course.

Doug:

Hosting a tour event obviously does not mean playing access for anyone other than the people participating in the event, plus perhaps a few others.

And a LOT of Cypress is visible from the 17 Mile Drive... so your suggestion has darn near already occurred there.

However, that does answer my question as to one reason they might want to do it:  the altruism of opening their course for complete view by anyone who pays for a ticket.  I sit chastised.  I should have thought of that.  My only explanation is that it is so visible already, well... I glossed right over this.

In any event, I still doubt this is enough to make the CPC members do it, but at least that is a fair reason.

Mark - gotcha - oh my yes, changes in the goal of toughening that course for pros would be disastrous indeed.

I heard this as well..... being mentioned in the same sentence that Tiger might as well return to the AT&T due to his new association with AT&T at his tournament and on the bag.

I don't think it's going to happen either.

1. They haven't resolved the issue of a minority member.
2. The greens are scheduled to be replaced after the 2010 Open.
3. The course is not a tournament course.
4. They can't handle the crowds when Tiger plays.

And yes, the pros going low there is like watching Arnold Palmer trying to compete in the Masters against Tiger.  The game has passed the golf course.

I too heard it is going to happen...but my source can not be revealed
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Isn't Monterrey Peninsula CC also being mentioned?  It would be a great way to truly introduce the late, great one to the golfing viewership.
