Here is one that might be a little harder than average. Built in the golf boom of the 1920's.
1938
Today
Par 3 3rd Hole located in the upper right area of the aerial

Dan,
Longwood Country Club in Crete, IL
I have had this one on my radar for awhile and wanted to get out and play there. The bunker scheme looked interesting even on the present day course. Do you know who the orginal architect is??

Not so hard I guess. Longwood Country Club opened 1928 and was designed by Harry Collis. Far south near the Indiana border not too far from last weeks Glenwoodie Course also by Collis. This effort pales in comparison to Glenwoodie, in particular the green complexes lack the flair found in some of Collis' other work. The bunkering scheme, or what is left of it, is very typical of Collis other work I have seen. The course features one terrific par 4, the 14th, 2-3 other very good holes and a very nice set of par 3's including the concluding 18th hole. When I played there early last year it looked like there were redoing some of the bunkers on the front 9. A blue collar course with recession busting pricing. I'll be able to post some photos later today.

Dan, you know more about Longwood than Longwood does. Good one!

1st Par 4 Nice opener with one of the better greens.
2nd Par 4 uses slight raise in fairway to nice effect with a downhill approach to a green nested across the creek.
3rd Hole See Above.
5th Nice hole follows flow of land around a creek and up the hill on the west side of the property. Note the bunkering around the green on the old aerial.
8th Par 3 Some imposing bunkers
9th Par 4 with another seni blind drive over a ridge

Nice photos, thanks for posting.
The bunkering is very unique and it looks like it hasn't changed too much?
I like the "rustic" look of the course.

Here are some highlights from the back nine. An interesting thing about the course is that all the holes around the perimeter are pretty good, but the six or so interior holes (6,7,12,13,16,17) lack character.
10th par 4 A creek in the landing zone requires thoughtful placement, but trees near the green mar what could be a very good hole.
11th par 3 Neat uphill par 3 over a massive bunker, note the cool S shape to the bunker in the old aerial
14th a par 4 Best hole on the course. Restored fairway bunkers would help it shine. Green is superbly placed on the crest of the hill.
15th Par 5 features a nice drive from anelevated teeing area with a creek to contend with on the 2nd shot.
18th par 3 The last of four very fine par 3's
