I was going to ask this question to Lynn Shackelford, who I had the pleasure of meeting this past weekend at the King's Putter, but maybe someone else might know...

During Abdul-Jabbar's final NBA season farewell tour, at his last regular season game vs. the Phoenix Suns, Jerry Colangelo presented him a gift of a set of custom made Ping golf clubs.  As I recall, Kareem remarked that golf was a game he was not familiar with.

I was wondering if he ever took up the game ?

Knowing that I love golf, he did mention to me once that he got a set at the retirement scene in Phoenix, but that he didn't play, nor did he intend to.

I think Chick Hearn got so upset about the whole scene, after a few cities, he didn't want to mention it at all.
