Would like the advice of those who have firsthand experience on these courses.

Heading to Reno/Tahoe later this spring, and would like to hear your preferred venues as I plan the itinerary.

In Reno:  (please tell me your top two, in order of preference)

Arrowcreek
D'Andrea
Lakeridge
Red Hawk
Somersett
Wildcreek
Wolf Run

Carson City  (again, your top two)

Dayton
Genoa Lakes
Genoa Resort

Graeagle Area  (which is preferred?)

Whitehawk
Plumas Pines

Thanks in advance for your informed opinions...much appreciated!

I think I've played them all and would pick pretty much none.  Reno just had 2 courses close so I'm not sure they are on your list.

You should look at playing,
Martis Camp
Incline Village
Coyote Moon
Clear Creek (if it's open and it's close to Carson City)
Montreux

In Grayeagle I would choose,
Whitehawk
Dragon at Gold Mountain
Grizley Ranch

Incline Village and Coyote Moon are already on the docket, as is Edgewood--Tahoe.  I thought The Dragon was closed, speaking of closures.

But--can anybody else chime in here?  Gotta be more than just Joel's single opinion about the order in which to play these Reno-area courses, no?

Redhawk and Lakeridge are probably your best bets in Reno but I am not endorsing them.

A couple of years ago there was a movie called Mr. Incredible.  Here is a quote,

"They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity."

You are basically looking for the best of the mediocre golf courses in Reno.

You can throw in the Nicklaus public course called Old Greenwood in Truckee as better then any of the courses in Reno.

Joel:

Just one course to offer for now in Reno -- play the Challenge 18 at Arrowcreek from the duo of Harbottle and Zoellar. Very well done layout that gets dissed because many see the facility as just another housing layout with golf attached to it.

Edgewood Tahoe is more about the scenery than anything else.

Somerset is OK -- frankly the front nine there is worth two plays.

Ditto what Joel said about Coyote Moon and the Nicklaus layout / Old Greenwood.

I'll chime in.....I've played a few.

Lakeridge - Just ok....because the only thing I can remember playing is their signature hole....the crazy par 3 to an island green from tees 100 ft above!

D'Andrea, Red Hawk, Wolf Run - Have played all 3, but honestly can't remember much special about any of them. Take it for what you will. I remember bad courses just as much as I remember great ones....so maybe no memory is not so bad. All had decent conditioning, just nothing screamed out to me about the architecture.

Old Greenwood - Should definetely make an effort for this one....when I played it last fall I would have deemed it the poster child for "fast and firm," the conditioning along these lines was perfect. Plus you have a pretty solid layout in beautiful forested mountains.

Whitehawk - Played it once in high school, so it was quite some time ago, and I remember being pretty blown away by it, in a good way. But I think it was still a very new course then, in great condition with a beautiful layout. Not sure what it looks like now.

The Dragon - This is still open, but called Nakoma Golf Resort. It's on my list of must-plays for the year, simply to see any changes they might have made from the original design, and the much talked about Frank Lloyd Wright clubhouse.

Martis Camp & Coyote Moon - I've heard nothing but good things. Great things even about Martis Camp....but haven't been up to these yet. I think Coyote Moon will be on my must-plays for next year at the latest, since it's designed by the same archie as my current course.

Geneoa Lakes vs. Resort - Played here for my Bachelor Party....all my research told me the Resort was the way to go. I would agree. Played to fast and firm and liked the front 9 layout alot. Some fun greens. Unfortunately they were building houses in the middle of the back 9 loop when I was there, which are probably done by now. Wish they could have kept them away......could be a really great course.....but I guess it wouldn't be "Resort" without some places to stay.

All in all, the newest wave of courses in the Truckee/Tahoe area are where you'll find your most enjoyment I think. Unfortunately, every time I look to/visit Reno, it just seems to be lacking in the golf catagory. But then Vegas doesn't have much to boast about either.....maybe it's a casino town thing.

Regardless, looks like you've got the best bets already booked. I'm sure you can find one or two decent if not slightly less spectacular rounds to finish up the trip.

Here's a link to a good deal to play Montreaux, in my opinion the best course in that area:

http://www.privatecommunities.com/nevada/montreux/discovery-package.htm

I would also recommend Arrow Creek in Reno-either course, skip Lakeridge it has one great hole and the rest are pretty plain.

You can get off at Greys Crossing and Timilick in Truckee with a phone call to any of the real estate offices in the area. I would also recommend Tahoe Donner,  Coyote Moon and Old Greenwood.

I think that Edgewood is way overpriced and would play Incline instead.

I would also recommend Grizzly Ranch in Graeagle area.  I think they have a package with Whitehawk Ranch.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.
