Looks pretty strange to me ... particularly the sod wall bunker through the fairway, with the sod wall not on the line of play.

What country is that?  Is the white sandy area a natural dune?

My guess is Newport Dunes in Port Aransas, Texas.  Designed by Arnold Palmer.

You're right - that was lazy of me.

OK - it's fairly flat.  I'm guessing it's near an ocean.   But is that juniper in the foreground?

Could it be Western Australia?

ok - a swag... Kidd?

Swag as in "Scientific Wild - A!! Guess?

Still NO.

Here is one thing that is interesting about this...it could have been built anywhere...I mean ANYWHERE ...the undulation, the open sand...it is all man-made.

Did you guess that?  Did you see any visual clues to tip you off?

swag - silly wild as* guess

Bart - the only thing that implied it wasn't natural was the color of the sand.  Ok - and the fairway mounds in an area that sure looks flat.

Jim Engh?

Dan:

There are mounds for acres and acres if you are there...but the mounds are fairly pointed...I think nature flattens them out more..No, not Engh!  "A" for effort..."F" for answers  ;D

Tom: if you thought that bunker looked odd...check out the two that are farther to the right...here is another view of this hole...the two bunkers on the right look joltingly out of place to me.

Enjoy.

I would guess the course is in California. I see some palm trees in the background. Given the excessive variety of flora pictured it would appear many of these plants weren't native to the site. The weird bunkering and sandy area are not familiar to me of anyone's work I have seen. I would guess the site has some toxic garbage in the soil given the problem they are having keeping the fairway grassed. It is interesting how much movement and hazards are in and around the fairway and how benign the green appears in contrast.

Adam:

Why can't you see the pics?  And no fair, you know my travel agent  ;).

Yes, Adam..South Africa, Player...there are 2 pics of Fancourt Links posted.  I think they make for some interesting observation...when they first built Fancourt Links and held the Presidents Cup, everything off of the fairway was tall haylike grass.  They are now going back and adding more exposed sandy areas, scrub, etc to soften and blend the look.  Fancourt Links was apparently a farm with a runway area prior to the golf course and very, very flat.  A tremendous amount of effort, time and money has been spent to produce this faux links...It is fun to play and has lots of interesting strategy and some truly odd bunkering!  It is a walking course, and a nice walk at that...the site is appropriately windy...about 20-25mph on the day we played.

What about the other aspects of the site that I guessed at? My next choice would be Florida but I didn't figure that much variety of vegetation could grow there. Is there anything interesting about the green?

Ed:

The greens had some internal contours but were certainly not wild...yes, there are palm trees and I don't know how much of the vegetation is native...no toxic waste...the course was pretty firm and not overwatered.

Huh?

If I were to walk on a golf course and start smoking some crack, I might see something like those pictures above.

Comprende?

I didn't say it was bad, I said it was trippy.  Don't insinuate.
