Tiger vs. Mcllroy - dream match
« on: February 26, 2009, 02:00:07 PM »
Its a little premature, but if they both win today this huge match will take place on Friday.  Its really what golf needs.

I got this match in my office pool, so I've got some stake in it.  BUT....

I've got McIlroy taking out the worlds number one, wouldn't that be SWEET!!!

Too bad Tiger is getting the wood laid to him by Tim Clark. Though he does seem to be making a come back. And last I saw Rory was down or all square as well. TGC has to be beside themselves for the chance to get those two on TV together.

Who's Rory McIlroy?

Exactly. This is a "dream match"?

I am the anti-David.  If Tiger goes away ratings will plummet, and I will be a small cause of it.

Who's Rory McIlroy?

Very young Northern Ireland golfer who led the (losing) GBI team in the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down.   He is a charismatic young player who should be a big start for years.

The world of golf already knows. There are small pockets where he hasn't been seen yet.....
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Let me be the first to congratulate Timmy Clark "THE LITTLE GUY"

Job well done.

Tom - the anti-david, isn't that a bit harsh? ;D

match shows as dormie 3 as I read it... is it over?

And I still wouldn't bet my life's savings on Clark, if it is in fact dormie 3.

David - I am the anti on that one statement only.  That is unless you are tall young and thin, in which case the anti continues.

 ;D

BTW... for sure good for Tim Clark assuming he holds on.  He's always seemed like a good guy to me.

Excellent.  That's a nice drubbing.  Well done Tim Clark.

Hide the knives from all Accenture and TGC reps.

Congratulations to Tim Clark--quite a David and Goliath match there, when you consider Clark's stature and the length of his tee shots compared to Tiger.

Rory McIlroy is a fine player who, at 19(?), has had some amazing success.  It's a little premature, though, to anoint him as Tiger's rival (and to give him his match against Hunter Mahan as well).  I agree that McIlroy could turn out to be a very special player.

Tom,

Tall yes, young (well 24 so it's all relative), thin (didn't you see me defending Hefty's errr I mean Lefty's garb?)  I used to be thin, butttt, I love beer, pizza, taco's, cheese.....did I mention cheese?

Maybe playing Clark is a better match than Tiger anyway.

Yes now that Tiger is gone the press can all go home and TGC can pull the majority of their people.  I'll bet Kelly is broadcasting from Orlando within a day or two.

God forbid that Oliver Wilson and Ross Fisher make the final.   It would be the worst nightmare in televised golf history.

Also somebody named Ross Fisher, who I believe was a character on Friends, has reached the final 16.  I was actually looking forward to Tiger vs. the winner of the Villegas - Ogilvy match.

Well played by Tim Clark, six birdies and no bogies in 16 holes.

This would be a fine opportunity for Phil to win a golf tournament and put some serious pressue on the World Rankings.  It would be really nice to see him buckle up and make the run now that Tiger has returned.  Then he could just say he didn't want to do it while Tiger was away because he knew there would be an asterisk involved.  If Mickelson wins this week and the Masters, I'm guessing he'd have to be pretty close to #1.

P-Mick haters, fire away!!!!
