Bad news. No money in stimulus bill for golf.

From Bloomberg.com
U.S. Congress Gives Final Approval to $787 Billion Stimulus

Lawmakers dropped provisions barring funds from going to museums, arts centers and theaters. A ban on money to casinos, golf courses, zoos and swimming pools was retained. Lawmakers deleted provisions requiring businesses receiving stimulus funding to use E-Verify, a government program used to ensure workers are in the country legally.

You would think golf courses would bring a ton of sustainable jobs once the course was actually constructed. Would that not what you would be looking for?

Oh well.

LOL

Me too, I'm also rolling on the floor
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Unless I am again mistaken there is $300 million simulus in the form of individual $1,500 tax credits for the purchase of neighborhood electric vehicles.
That is code for golf carts.

The golf cart companies had a better lobby than the golf course architects.

Pete,

NEV's represent a class of vehicles that are equipped with much of the same gear, like lights, horns, signals, etc., as automoblies. They must also be able to reach speeds that are about twice as fast as those of an unmodified golf cart.

Any potential tax savings would be lost, at least for a golf course's purchase, to the cost of the safety equipment and hi-speed motor controllers.

Probably lots of PGA Tour sponsors are getting bailout money.  Might keep some tour stops alive.

I think the coding to golf carts was done by those opposed to the package.

I guess a $70 billion dollar business doesn't count.

It would be huge if a number of golf courses could go solar or use wind power for their electric needs or install new pumps for their irrigation needs.  Add on new eqipment from Toro or John Deere and you have the real meaning of the stimulus package, creating a ripple effect on jobs and helping the environment and economy plus providing a better place for people to have recreation.   Common sense doesn't apply.

Jeff Brauer must have a good lobbyist somewhere as it appears there is a golf course renovation at CW Ditto Golf Course Renovations Arlington TX (30 positions) $6,000,000

Raul Alvarez Disc Golf Course: This project will develop a 36-hole disc golf course that will be environmentally and financially sustainable. Austin TX (4 positions)  $886,000

Joel,
There is 18.5 billion set aside for energy efficiency and renewable energy, including retrofits, a billion of which is set aside for improving and producing batteries.

Larry;
That's a blog, go to    http://www.rules.house.gov/111/LegText/111_hr1_text.pdf
and use the "find on this page" feature of your computer. I couldn't find any reference to what you are suggesting is in this act.
Individual municipalities may have had these types of projects on their wish lists, but they won't be using recovery act funds for them.

All the 'blogs' have their own agendas that support the way they report about this stimulus package.

86 minutes from Anaheim to Vegas on mag-lev. All those LA golfers can make the short jaunt for other high priced, under-architectured venues. ;)

Great...just friggin great.

Which means no money for open greenspace, flood control, building and landscape construction, erosion control, recreation, minority athletics, environmental asset management and urban renewal.

Which goes to prove that Democrats can be just as stupid as Republicans...which is almost impossible.

Mike,
There are parts of the act that provide funds for most of the topics you mentioned. I don't profess to any great knowledge about all that's in it, or the ramifications of it's enactment, but searching through it has been an enlightening experience.
What I've found while reading parts of it vs. what's been put out in radioland or expressed on blogs about those same parts, is that most of what's being said and written is BS, and mostly fits into the ideology of the talk show host or the writer of the blog.

If we weren't so lazy we wouldn't let other people do our thinking for us and we could come to our own truth.

Jim,

You're absolutely correct and my point was simply the politicization of the word "golf" to imply that tax dollars were being used for a frivilous and trivial matter.

My contention is that golf courses are absolutely CRITICAL to civilization.

Name a country that has taken to golf that is war-like and oppressive?

Golf is even the best shot China has at further democratization and modernization.
