...Challanging for the the better player but playable for all handicap levels. ???

Isn't that what most on GCA.com are striving for?

"Signature hole"
"Championship"
"Testing"
"Four par 5s and Four par 3s"

and of course the phrase

"God made this land for a golf course"

"challenging" and its companion "demanding" are definitely among my most disliked but MY MOST DREADED WORD IS: "WATER" :D (especially when they start talking about how many holes have water... that is supposed to make me HAPPY?!?!)

"amenities" ... good one there, already mentioned

"Water feature"
(in the UK at least) "Ryder Cup"
"European Tour venue"
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

The words I dread most on a golf course prospectus are......other architects names!
Jeff- I like your way of thinking.... seriously though if you guys ever run your own golf course, you will eat your words, the majority of golfers are sold on USGA, complimentary, cart path, nicklaus, water on X holes, lush, fazio, championship, longest, trent jones....

Adrian,

Not sure if I agree with you on architects names, at least not here in UK eg. "Nicklaus" course at Gleneagles anyone ?

Intersting comments though. I wonder what phrases would get everyones interest ?

I have to agree with Adrian's perception of greatness from a UK perspective - why else do they flock to the south of Spain and the Algarve? For many Cheshire golfers the pinnacle of their year is a round at Carden Park Nicklaus Course, not Delamere Forest, Prestbury or one of the other classics. No one would thank you for a round at Reddish vale.

I've never understood this type of course. Normally it's attached to a neighborhood development where the residents get playing rights, but the public can still play. Who benefits? What's the point?

I know one where this works very well:  PASATIEMPO.

Blokes like me get to play a great course, the members get a crazily good deal (for our area) in low monthlies, etc.  Members get the prime times, no public play before certain times in the am.

Seems like one and all benefit to me....

"grandeur"
"conceived in harmony"
"nature's infinite presence"
"nature is embraced, not conquered"
"structure of a symphony"
"small crescendos"

Chambers Bay?

Least favorites: "mounding", "perimeter weighted fairways", "best practice facility in the (city, state, nation, world, galaxy)", "cart paths", "(insert name of tour player)'s astonishing original work", "gated community"
