Has anyone here played this course? I now have several sources, including two who never agree on any course [it seems], agreeing that this is one of the most fun courses they have played. At 400 miles from me, I want to know a bit more before planning the trip. It is in the mountains of western Virginia. Seen it?

The course is not in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The course is east of the mountains in the foothills - fair amount of elevation change.  They have not built many of the houses yet.  I am not sure if Sam Sneed had anything to do with it or not.  I would guess it was all or most Ed Carton.  I have a ton of pictures, if I can find them, I will post some.

I played there the year it opened.  I enjoyed the course a great deal. It is not a "great" course architecturally speaking but it is pretty and enjoyable.  If you are in the neighborhood it is worth a play.

Agreed, but I thought the par 5 third hole was a solid par 5; I thought the slight drop shot par 3 13th was good, and loved the short / driveable par 4 14th holes.  I am sure there are others, but those holes still stand out in my memory.
