I have only played Lyman Orchards Player course and remember it being quite bad - lots of awfull mounding and several head scratching holes.

Chris

I've played Lyman Orchards in central CT a few times, but almost exclusively the RTJ course  ;)

That is the one we liked a TON more than the Player course.  I think I was having nightmares about mounding between holes in my sleep after the Player course. :o

If I lived in the area, it would be a no-brainer choosing the Jones over the Player course.

Eric

I thought HH National was alright, but I thought B Weed designed one of the nines, from memory the better nine.  Is this true?

Ciao

Sean:

This is true. There are 27 holes there, the original 18 by Player, and a newer 9 by Weed, which imo is the better 9 of the three, including a really cool driveable par 4

Hole No. 6
Black: 298, Blue: 273, White: 254

Jeez, he seems like such a nice man and an incredible golfer and athlete, but he's absolutely awful as a golf course designer.

TPC at Jasna Polana is almost humorously atrocious, and someone else above mentioned River Run which is equally horrendous.

And in the words of Forrest Gump, that's all I can say about that.

Nob North in Dalton GA is the best golf for your dollar I have ever played. Player friendly and risk/reward off almost every tee. I love this course.

  Anthony

Anthony,
I am interested in your opinion on this; I've never played Nob North, but have heard good things about it.  I'll have to make the effort to get up there asap, which I've intended to do anyway.   I'll get back to you when I do.

The only other Player course that I am familiar with at all is Blackmoor at Myrtle Beach.  It gets neither rave reviews nor insults; just part of the general golf landscape at MB, I think.

Raven Course at Hawthorne Valley is an excellent Player course.  I've hosted a tournament there for 14 years running and we always look forward to going back.

"Player course" needs some explanation.  Gary showed up for the second time on opening day.  Player's lead architect - Tom Walker - lived with his wife at Hawthorne for the 8 months they built the course.  It's a Walker course in everything but its name.

JC

Yes, the only course of his I have played. It was a blast, but I lost quite a few golf balls there. The rough was very unforgiving, swallowing all entries. The fairways were quite expansive, but you better live there.

Where is everybody? Where is Tommy N? Where is John K? Where is Jay F? What has happened here? Has my absence caused this chaos? I'm sorry. All my rowdy friends have settled down ......... somewhere else!

50 of the courses listed are "in development"

  8)  we got free coupons to play Player's Grand Lake course twice while in development.. never got on but drove around.. not even close to WCC course, but some intersting holes.

GP Golf courses are kinda like George Washington.. he slept in a lot of places..

I think Blume actually finished up the golf course. Expect big things within the next 18 months out there.
