Easy? Certainly easier than the course you have left us to guess while you are away. All I'll say is that its the first hole of a famous course. Its easy enough already without me adding any more. Enjoy your break Mark!

Cheers,

James

Is it the next hole enjoyed after you partaken of some preround kummel

I'm off to bed. I'll give you a real stinker tomorrow.  1st at Prestwick.

1st shot slice onto the railway line, which I managed to obliterate. Bounce it back onto the fairway. Slice approach shot onto railway. Bounce that onto the green and you've your first birdie of the round. It's reputed to have been done. Does anyone have the provenance?

I was playing with a guy who did that.
Said he was a 25, but I wasn't buying it ;)

Photos of this hole...sign showing proper play...tee shot...approach shot.

I need the correlation with the aerial...Aerials are really hard for me  8).

Do players slice one over the wall very often?

What is left? What happens if there is a crosswind?

Is the fairway really that narrow?

There is the train track & some townhouses.

Is the fairway really that narrow?

The fairway in the hitting zone is normal width.[B/]

Andrew:

Left is some tall rough and some gorse bushes...the train tracks are on the right.

I thought the fairway was pretty narrow  ;D.

If there is a crosswind...hit it pure!

I thought he was asking what was over the train tracks from his previous question about slicing one over the wall. I didn't even notice he had written left. I need to go back to 3rd grade to learn to read again. ::)

I didn't think the fairway width was too bad when I was there about 18 months ago. I did actually hit a 5 iron off the tee, which was a good idea for me. As a left hander who hooks the ball, the train tracks were on my mind. A month later I played Royal Cinque Ports & hooked my 1st tee shot OOB & walked off the green with an 8.

1. Yes

2. Shit

3. Hit the putter?

4. Yes, the fairway is very narrow with a driver, but not so bad with a mid-iron

B*gger me that looks tight, we played in mist and rain so never saw much past the end of the tee. The clue re the kummell didn't narrow it down to much!

I like that sign! It is almost like an order.

(What is all this talk about slicing it right? Just do as the sign tells you to! ;o)

1. aim at white marker post
2. hit mid / long iron into landing area
3. hit mid / short iron onto green
4. two putt for a par
5. repeat over 18 holes
5. work on your putting some more
6. join the pro tour

I'd hit driver.  What do you have to lose but a ball?  For the same reason, you hit driver over the signs on #17 The Old Course...you didn't come that far to play safe, did you?  It's just golf!
