How long is the drive from here to Southerness? And how long would it take to travel from a Machrie/Machrihanish excursion to get there?

It must be about 2 hours drive between Southerness and Silloth.  Trying to combine Machrihanish let alone Machrie with Silloth is California Crazy Dude.

Well, I do live in California. But the only gold I have found here has been my lovely wife. I've never been afraid to drive if the course is good.

My sound engineer and I played when on tour a few years ago. Fantastic fun.

I try to get over there two or three times a year.  I strongly suspect that it represents the best value golf in England.  If it were anywhere near anywhere else it would be a recognised treasure but it is way out of the way.  Better than North Berwick in my book.  Probably better than Cruden Bay, too.  Sorry, no pictures.

It's definitely better than Cruden Bay.

 A wonderful course. Better, in my opinion than Machrihanish and Cruden Bay. If it was in Scotland, and you can see Scotland from the course, it would get much more attention.

Am I the only one thinking about future Buda locations?  Is there suitable accommodation?



PS Welcome Niall  - you found an easy subject to make your first post on.

When we went on a trip to the North West, we played first at Windemere in the Lake District, staying in Ambleside. Not the greatest course in the world but fun and there aren't many nicer places than the Lakes. From there it was an hour's drive to Silloth which was no great hardship. It was also around an hour to the Lancashire coast - we played at Formby on our 3 day trip but there are endless possibilities in that area.

You have to want to get to Silloth, but it's worth the effort and can easily be done.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm now based back up in Glasgow but still manage to get down to Silloth every couple of months. The trip takes just under 2 hours each way but well worth it.

Closer to home I'm a member at Glasgow Gailes but somehow as welcoming a club and as good a course as Glasgow Gailes is, its not quite Silloth.

By the way, whats the Buda ?
