YEARLY DUES
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:55:23 PM »

I just sent in my yearly dues check to Golf Club Atlas.

Does anyone know how long you have to be on this site before they wave the one dollar a post fee?

You've been misinformed, newbie.  The only surcharge is for Fisking ("Mucci Tax").

The "intelligentsia" at my club wants to make #18 a 4 par instead of a 5. If they do it will save me a dollar on my annual gca.com gift since the par for the course will go down one.

Unfortunately, I'm so contrary I won't pay attention to what they do anyway.

Mike:

What's the theory? Just to make the hole more difficult in relation to par?

I'm pleased to report that Par at my personal favorite golf course, the South Course at Detroit Golf Club, is 68! ;D

the South course at Detroit Golf Club, a delightful place and when dues come up, the home or favorite to many on this site.
Seriously, what is the saying, "if Donald Ross didn't design this course I would like to know who did?"
It is a pleasure to play.

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Lets celebrate those who have put their money where their mouth is - or perhaps ears in the cases of the surprising no of people who have given generously yet hardly post.

For no particular reason, starting with those who've made 7 donations ("years/rounds played").

I can reveal that there are two gents who are much more generous than any others.  You can pause for a moment and not scroll down while you figure out who.

Congratulations Pat, I am stunned.  I'll never start another argument with you again (come to think of it I've never started any of our arguments ;))

Thank you for your generosity and for helping to keep this place alive.

C'mon Tony, we all know that Sean Arble and Pat Mucci were able to do this because they are the only guys on this site who invested with Madoff and got out before the scheme ended.

I was quite curious about Pat Mucci being at 24 years. This site certainly hasn't been up for 24 years...maybe some of the long term veterans can explain. And, BTW, whats with another long term poster not being on the contributions list (TEP)? Surely a typo.

Jim Coleman and Mayday Malone:

YOU TWO agree on something!?!?

What the hell is going on? If that's true there may be hope for the world after-all!

Happy New Year to you two passiononistas!

Now, I want you two to sit quietly somewhere for at least seventeen minutes and just try to imagine the fun and exilleration you are going to have with that second shot on #7 come the springtime. It will be a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside a conundrum and you two will be beside yourselves with joy. If you land in either of those two new bunkers don't curse your unlucky stars----think of me and Wayne and the conceptual geniuses responsible for your, for your, aah----you two think of a description!

Hmmm.

More to the point. I'm not on the contributors list? I must be a procrastinator. Is it the same deal where you think of your favorite courses and contribute dollars apropos their pars?

And what is this with Pat Mucci and 24? Does this mean he essentially contributed like 24 course pars. Let me get my calculator because that sounds like a lot of dough-rey-me. However, you all should understand, as I do, that Patrick Mucci is both a very generous and a very rich man!!  ;)

Thanks for the reminder, I missed last year so I sent mine in now.  This site is certainly worth the few bucks that are contributed.

Yes, I paid mine as well. Not nearly as much as I maybe should have paid, but you know, the golf business is terrible now, I haven't taught a lesson in 3 months. Either way, a little something is better than a whole lot of nothing.
