Bart, I was on my Blackberry therefore no pics. I will only admit to paying attention to the Harry the Hippo thread. The rest of the clues that it was Fancourt were within the body of this thread. The faux dunes and Palm Trees sealed the deal. Throw in Tom's comment about one of the finer points and I suspected Player. Honestly, your travel agent had nothing to with it.

I would like to renew my objections to the mixed styles of bunkers.  The external  / boundary bunkers only detract from what should be the focus of this landscaping.  Reminds me of what I don't like about Arcadia Bluffs.  To me, this is a case of more is less.

That is good to hear. It was certainly not that way when I was there. Very damp and soft made for much less of a links experience than I was hoping for. I didn't come close to recognizing this picture. I really enjoyed the Fancourt Montague course though!

How can you sit on the field, look at this...

fake blown-out sandy area at the back (too clean)
sod wall bunkers in the fairways
lost to the right, roundish Augusta like bunkers in miniature

and then say: OK guys, that's perfect, exactly what we are looking for, grass it   ??? ??? ??? ???

I was going to guess Gary Player at Raspberry Falls mainly due to the stacked sod bunkers.  I have never seen them anywhere else.

I like the look of that hole. As far as the three very different looks of bunkers, that doesn't bother me. And I like how those prominent high spots are sort of burnt out.

I think that's the type of hole for me where the first time on the tee I'd probably think to myself. "Hmmm, I wonder where to hit the ball with any kind of assurance of a decent outcome."

Seems incredibly random that way and I like random, deceptive, unobvious etc, etc.
