So how did GCA.com's inaguaral event for 2009 go?

Was there much money flying out of peoples wallets?  ;D

LOL
Benham was the big winner - 3 skins for him, 2 for me, 1 each for John and Steve.  That meant Mike won the princely sum of $10 I think.

I do believe a good time was had by all.  It was a little wet - some rain recently, and ST doesn't drain well at all - but the greens were wonderful.  Played back tees in cold misty weather and it was a fine test for one and all.  Benham shot 77, me 79, the other two around 80 I'd guess.

Main thing was we played in a little less than FOUR HOURS!  That was a Santa Teresa New Year's miracle.... the course was uncrowded and we played at a fine pace.

Mike B. has pictures... not that the course shows very well in photos....

Race Bannon... the Big Boy.... all heroes of mine.  Not sure what this says.

Now back to the battle at Santa Teresa... there was one large disappointment, revealed here (and apologies to Mike B. if this is stealing any thunder - this is his pic):

The trophy on which my name is proudly inscribed twice - Club Champion - was missing from the case - out for engraving, adding the 2008 winner.  Dammit.

Thus my horror.  This was my big chance for GCA proof.... story of my life.

Given what I saw Steve do to young Jordan Wall at Pasatiempo last April at the KP, I'm surprised he didn't win the whole magilla.  Huck and Mike and John were obviously on their games.

You saw Good Steve.  When that Steve shows up - as he did against Jordan - look out world.
He was not present yesterday except for fits and starts.

Tom's watch needs a little work.  While we did finish 3 hours and 58 minutes after our designated starting time, we probably teed off at least 10 minutes early so we were just over 4 hours.  Also, due to a terrible front 9, I was not just around 80, but posted an 86.  I was even for the first 7 holes of the back 9 before hitting one OB on 17.

Lots of fun and thanks for including an old San Jose Stater with you posh Santa Clara boys.

The participants ... only 47 more to go ...

The famed 16th at Santa Teresa, with the new back tee (225 yards) and with a right side hole location, a blind tee shot.

Tom,

You must be the only golfer on the face of the earth that keeps track of the club championship engraving schedule so that you can invite guests when it's out!

Tom, if you were like Tiger, you'd have blamed the pull hook into the trees you hit on 16 on the click of that camera.  ;)

Slightly OT... in a case of "small-worldness" I had the pleasure of playing with Steve P., unknowingly albeit, a couple years ago at Pasatiempo.  He rounded out our 4th.  Man, he could hit the ball!
