« on: December 18, 2008, 09:20:17 PM »
Have we had a thread on winter photos yet ?

Fortunately I never get much chance to snap snowy scenes in the winters nowadays , but I am sure some of you Guys do .

I did see this morning on FlickR , that TOC has had sprinkling .

This was at Royal Dornoch this spring.

I hope you can see the how the ball rolled and collected a "snow donut" - and when it ran out of speed it fell sideways.

Don't worry - those were not taken this winter...

...and these were from one of the most grueling snowshoe adventures I've taken:

Brian,

Are the last 3 from Marquette/Greywalls?

On the second picture from the top, amateur photographer to allow his/her footprints to be seen on the Road Hole.  I assume it was the photographer, and not a golfer.
It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Hey Lynn - what's that white stuff all over those golf courses?  Isn't snow something one drives to so the kids can romp and have fun?

Ha ha...spoken like a true Californian.  Don't worry, I always though the same until I moved to Spokane, WA and saw how much of a pain it can be to "live" in the snow.

We've got a good 6-9 inches on the ground right now...perhaps its time for some golf course pics this weekend.   ;D

LOL
It is times like this that the golfers here are glad we live where we do.  SoCal is even better in this respect, although if you ask them RIGHT NOW, they are not loving life.

I play this card every winter.  This won't be the last time.  But let's talk about how much better Oakmont is than Pebble Beach comparing each on January 15, for example.

Brian,

Are the last 3 from Marquette/Greywalls?

Indeed they are.  You wouldn't believe some of the drifts out there, especially down the valley toward the 7th green.  It's a great challenge and gorgeous to snowshoe, but be sure to bring your defibrillator....

Brian,  Were the first  two pics #10 and #9green at CD? Very pretty winter views. I do prefer the look of CD in October when the leaves are in full color.   Wish you well,  Jack

Right you are, Jack.  The first bit of October may be the best time to play.

Below are a few images from the blizzard of 2000 which dumped about 20 inches of snow on Pinehurst and central North Carolina.  The images were scanned so the quality is not as good typical digital images.  Also, I think the snow was still coming down and may be contributing to the lack of clarity as well.

At the first tee of Course No. 2...

About 50 yards short and right of #18 green on No. 2...

From the right side of #18 green of No. 2 looking towards "Maniac Hill"...

From the top of the the clubhouse looking down the #18 corridor of No. 2...

Standing at the No. 3 & No. 5 starter hut looking up at the "good side" of the clubhouse...

A few photos I took early in December while in Scotland. If the weather was okay I was hoping to play the Queens at Gleneagles, but didn’t manage any golf thanks to the snow. I did though take these photos on a walk around Taymouth Castle GC. I think Tom Doak rated it a 2 but I played it quite a few times as a kid on holiday so I have a soft spot for it…

1st hole, short par 4

4th hole, par 3 over water

5th hole, only par 5,. Plays flat, then up and over a ridge with a great view of Ben Lawers  beyond…

9th hole, medium par 4

10th hole, par 3 played down the same ridge played over on the 5th

16th hole, last par 3 seen from behind

Hope everyone had a great Christmas, though ours here in England wasn't white this year!

Cheers,

James
