Louie's charcol-broiled hotdogs at Sheridan Park muni in Tonawanda, NY.  OK - you need to sneak through a fence on the 5th tee, but they are awesome!

I also like the free apples on the course at Rolling Green in Philly.  A really classy touch.

Bogey,

I can take you Snapper hunting, the turtle that is, and make some real soup!  The old Indians taught me how to cook it in high school.  The turtle tastes like seven different kinds of meat depending on where it comed form on the carcaass and how you cook it.  Does this earn me honorable hillbilly status???

Merry Merry!

Joe,

I defer to the master.  For this task we need Sarge to lead us!  His mastery of Athens at Dixie Cup was a sight to see.  He knows all the tricks!!  Plus you know the dangers of going beaver hunting with a guy from Saugatuck!

Cheers!

P.S.  I have to be in GR in next week.  Lunch????

I've been trying to replicate the potato casserole I had at Ballyneal. I know I'm close, but Rupert, if you're reading, I promise to only make it at home or when I'm cooking for the guys while we're on the road if you send me the recipe!

So far, I think the casserole is made up of

potatoes
egg
parmigiano reggiano (or gruyere, or a combo of both)
cream

using food / quirk and setting as criteria:

burgers at the olympic club - undisputed champion

chili dog / heineken combo  at maidstone - have to love the halfway house  / setting

lunch at ngla - almost the best lunch on the planet but was just edged out by the lunch at villa d'este in italy - which is off the charts

Southsides at NGLA and other long island clubs- for the record the southside originated on the southside of Chicago - hence the name - some one was on NPR one day and explained the history of the drink - which originally was concocted to mask the taste of bad gin - later vodka became the key ingredient - would make sense that CBM would have taken the recipe to Long Island

Fernandos at The Country Club - do not drive afterwards -  they are lethal

the snapper soup at pine valley / and the Bloody Marys at the half way house are all world as well

the cinnamon crackers at shoreacres

the 2 coolers on 9th tee at myopia - iced tea and lemonade- ie arnold palmers - plus you get to play one of the great par 3's in golf - what a setting

the she crab soup at Indian Creek

the burgers at Chicago Golf club as they cook them in a weber bbq which is located in the men's bar using  the fireplace as the exhaust.

the margheritas at RTJ in Lake Manassas, VA

The Pizza at The National in Toronto - we just built a new clubhouse and they installed a proper pizza oven - needless to say it has been well received. The Veal chops are all world as well as is the tuscan bean soup

the peanut butter at Kinloch in VA - makes sense

dark and stormys at mid ocean

the burgers at Sand Hills - awesome

Joe,

Its get confusing over there, 'cause so many of the prey make such could use of camouflage and mis-representation.  There are definitely better places to hunt where the targets are much more easily identified!

Gerry B the rare beef also cooked on the grill in the mens bar at Chicago was the best ever.

Surely the whole idea of a burger was to mince up cheaper cuts of meat, using finest fillet or kobe is a insult to the meat.

In the UK at Prestwick, HCEG, Sunningdale, Tandridge, Sandwich, The Berkshire, Walton Heath and Rye take some beating. With the R&A having a great wine list

It's tough to beat the burgers at Austin Golf Club and the milkshakes at Castles Pines are something else (I think I had 5).

Occasionally we'd catch a turtle on our trot lines.  The heads make great bait after you've cut off and discarded their bodies, leaving the head on the hook.

Take a good long  look at a turtle and tell me there's anything there worth eating.  Not even Hillbillies eat possum soup, for crying out loud.
