The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, which will become the site of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship in February, announced that it will open the first 27 holes of a 36-hole facility next month. The match-play event, which will be played Feb. 23-March 1, is open to the top 64 players in the world golf rankings.
Jack Nicklaus designed the two courses at the resort north of Tucson near the Tortolita Mountain Range. They ultimately will be accessible only to resident members and resort guests, but will be open to public play for a limited time, starting Jan. 18.
Landing a tee time still could be a challenge because they must be arranged by a club pro on behalf of non-member golfers. Winter registration fee is $225 per player. Information: 1-520-572-3500.
