Emoticons - The solution to Mr. Linford's ranking system??
« on: December 08, 2008, 09:33:46 PM »
The attempt to type an 8 that turned into an 8) on the golf writers thread just gave me an idea.

What if we converted from the Doak scale for these ratings to emoticon ratings?  Everyone could just pick the emoticon that provides the closest emotion they feel when recalling a course they played.

;D and >:( and  ??? would be pretty obvious on the scale.

:o and  :-* and  :-X might make you work a little harder to understand the review.

At the end of the day, we'd have to figure out what  :):(::):D all average out to, but we could make it work.

It would show we don't take ourselves too seriously and it would help us carve out a niche in the ratings game.

Each rater could give each course up to three emoticons, but need only provide one.

Let's see your most creative course ratings using this system to test it out and convince Ian that this is the way to go!

Tim,

I think your rating system could be coupled with some SMS talk.

A Pacific Dunes review could read:
R u up 4 sum gr8 glf? PC’s d’plas. U hv 2 pla PC. Itz wakd out wikd.  ;D

I like the idea. Perhaps we can call it the DanK Scale.........
