The 2008 LG Skins Game
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:08:47 PM »
I thought I'd at least call it by its official name. Figured I'd just open this space up for comments...if anybody is watching. Judging by the first hole it seems like Rocco and Phil might play off each other but Ames and Choi might not have a lot to add. Ames has a nice swing though. KJ has a loud driver.

Am I the only one who thought it was ridiculous to have a non english speaking golfer on a miked event whose only attraction is the banter between the golfers? :o
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

It doesn't matter Tim. No one watches the Skins Game anymore.

When the non english speaker is Korean, as is the Title sponsor, a bit less ridiculous.  As the winner, he is back next year, of course they may have to play in S Korea, but LG can afford it   ;)

I'd have to agree with the sentiment.  This was an over-produced, driver/wedge snoozefest on a course that looked like it had fertilizer dumped on it by the truckloads.

Man oh man how far this event has fallen...

think it was on Geoff Shackelfords site how they should invite people like Ochoa and others to try and spice up this snoozefest
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

The problem is that golf currently has a uni-umvirate. Hard to hold a real interesting event without at least a triumvirate.

The main problem with this event was I didn't really see any of these guy really gripping or sweating hard over those putts.  They mentioned that back when it first started these guys could make more in this tourney than they made all year...now thats a recipe for a pressure cooker.

Nowadays,  gmafb, with guys like Choi, Phil, and Rocko...they're just playing for kicks and donating all or some of the loot to thier favorite charity.  Is a guy like Phil really going to care how much he gets when he makes 20-30 mil a year otherwise in endorsments and other winnings?

I just don't see the business model for this event and how its still afloat.  I'd take watching 4 players on a course like CK any day of the week.  And to spice it up they each put $250k of thier own cash in the pot and try to win it back.  That'd be interesting to watch.   ;D

Kalen--I'd like to see them play Thanksgiving Point, all the way back. Tuck the pins in crazy places and speed up the greens. $1 million a hole, but each player puts it up on his own. Now that would be fun stuff.

JKM,

Forunately we already have an annual event at TP every year.  Mostly older guys, but players like John Daly, Furyk, etc have shown up in the past as well.

I played it last friday and I was talking to a guy who followed John Daly around.  He said he reached the beastly par 5 11th in two.  Hit Driver/4 iron....just inconcievable for a hole that plays over 650 yards.  I know we're at elevation but even that only explains a 4-5% distance gain.

Wow, even I'm not long enough to reach that monster in 2 shots  :-\

It was playing downwind on Friday for a change.  My approach shot 3rd was only a 9 iron....by far and away the shortest approach I've ever had into that hole.   ;D

So what is the yardage from the ladies tees? We need to know to make sense of your brag above.

Ha ha,

Thanks as always Garland for your support.  We played from the Blues on this day where it plays about 610'ish...  ;D
