New Projects going forward, even in late '08
« on: November 20, 2008, 11:29:36 PM »
If there's one area where this DG has slipped over the last few years it's in the information sharing about the many New Projects out there. Yes, we're privy to a few, from Asia to Nuzzo's. So here's an update on some projects you may have not heard of. Feel free to post what projects your privvy to in or out of your area.

Blue Ridge- Georgia. This difficult site has been mentioned before but it was long ago. Currently they are back to work moving a lot of dirt and even have a few holes grassed (I think) This Axland and Proctor work was delayed due to typical issues but is back up and running. Don't be in too much of hurry, the opening will be well off into the future, maybe even 2011.

In Baja there's this Bay of Dreams that has 3 holes grassed 2 1/2 seeded and 3 more scheduled to be seeded next month. Not much on the website about it but here's the link.

Prairie Club- Valentine, Ne. After what surely had to an epic summer the project successfully and gracefully completed nearly all three courses. Some holes are grassed, with others due in the spring. The whisper is Graham Marsh's course is on the more subtle ground and is very well done. Lehman's task was bit more challenging utilizing some of the more dramatic terrain for hole locations. Both are expected to be top notch. Gil and Geoff's Horse course will likely be burdened with our greatest expectations and from all accounts will not disappoint.
What's yours (Matt Varney need not post on his but is free to about others)  ;)

Adam,

The Park City area is getting a new JN course.  I believe all of the holes are in the ground and its routed thru some interesting terrain.  Its set to open in the Fall of 2009.

Holy ship, those pictures look ridiculous. Is that seriously how it will look?!

"Stone Forest" is a very cool and apt name.

Adam:

You're assuming that there ARE a bunch of projects going forward even in late '08.  Unfortunately, I don't think there are.

No Tom, you are assuming that I am assuming. In a pre be normal world I wouldn't try to quantify the number. Since there will be relatively few, quantifying them in this thread should be easier.  Shameless plugs are encouraged (save for those already plugged)

That shoulda been 'new normal' but the point being there are more going forward if you believe the media reports of our demise.

Well, we've got one in the hopper (Common Ground opens in May 2009) and two being finished (Old Macdonald and Bay of Dreams, already mentioned).  After that, I really have no idea what will start next.  We've got several under contract but none of them are itching to break ground.

Matt,

This hole:

was basically sitting there.

Those photoshop renderings are a pretty good indication of what it will turn out like. Brian is always doing these colored pencil sketches to get his point across to shapers. I just took a few of his sketches and re-created them with Photoshop.

If your interested here is some info on the neighboring park. http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/yunnan/kunming/stone_forest.htm

Really a stunning landscape.

After spending some time at the Prairie Club in late September I can say first hand it is moving along to completion and looks to be a special place.  Some holes have plenty of grass on them already and the rest have all been shaped, grassed or hydromulched.  The good thing for Paul, Mark, and the rest of the team is that it is fully funded.  A very wise move on their part!

CL opening is well off. No need to create a buzz yet. 2010 at the earliest.

It will be interesting to see how many golf courses are delivered in 2010 and 2011.  I'm guessing the fewest in over 50 years.
