Rick,  Should you chose the Carmel area the drive down to Big Sur is as good as it gets. My wife and I celebrated our 1oth anniversary there last May. The Ventana Inn is a great spot to eat lunch-incredible vistas,great food. We ate there on the recommendation of Bob Huntley and were very impressed. I'm sure if you IM him he could provide other restaurant/side trip suggestions. A very special place! Best wishes,    Jack

I can 2nd this one.  My wife and I took a trip down the coast a few years back and stopped for dinner and drinks at this place....very much worth a look!
