You Know Scotland?

These photos were taken in Scotland in October.  There are five courses represented.  What holes are pictured below?

Can't name all the holes, but in order, I believe the courses are Kingsbarns, Carnoustie, Muirfield, St. Andrews (Old), and North Berwick. 

Stunning stuff.

It looks to me like you missed Dornoch and Cruden Bay....

But I could be wrong.

Photo 5 is 17 at Carnoustie
Photo 10 is the Road hole
Photo 11 is the 2d at North Berwick West Links
Photo 12 is the 10th at NB
Photo 13 is the 16th at NB

I know Royal Dornoch. The first 4 pictures are holes #4, #12, #9 & #10.

It may look Foxy, but the 2nd picture is from the tee on #12, a par-5. Foxy is #14.

THAT in the background is North Berwick Law,  a "conical hill rises sharply to 187m (613 feet). Geologically, the Law is a Lower Carboniferous volcanic plug, formed around 335 million years ago and composed of phonolytic trachyte. The hill was much later formed into a crag-and-tail, as a result of the action of glaciers."

#6 looks like Muirfield's 13th, but the folks on the following tee aren't quite right - it seems.  Perhaps they are playing off forward tees.  Plus, I have no memory of what looks like a water tower in the background. 



#8 Looks like Muirfield's 8th


I think #7 is Muirfield as well, but I am drawing a blank.  However, as I can only recall #17 having such bold centreline bunkering - that is my guess.

Yes, the first four are Dornoch and you're correct.

Thanks.  As Bryan said it's N Berwick Law.  I believe a Law means a big hill in Scotland.

#6 is Muirfield's 13th.  The group on 14 were probably playing the front tees as they were hitting into a 40 mph + wind.  That watertower may have something to do with the Archerfield development, which is just east of Muirfield.
#8 is Muirfield's 8th. 

The only hole not yet correctly identified is #12, which is not #10 at NB, but very close.

Eric T - The trip was great.  Scotland has very warm people and the golf courses were fantastic.  In addition to the pictured courses I played The Golf House Club (Elie), which is also a nice links.  Conditions were challenging as there were gale force winds a couple of days.  Cannot wait to get back!!

The player side of that finger in the front left of the picture is about 150 to the middle of the green, so the shot as in Brent's picture is about 210.  the conundrum posed by this shot defines the "ground game."

PPS-Berwick Law, which I can see form my house, is an extinct volcano.  Lots of them in and around Edinburgh.  It's no wonder that the science of Geology was a Scottish invention.
