The golf course looks amazing and sounds like it'll be a great turn-out.  I'm pretty sure I'm in...making the trip down from Columbus, possibly with a few others.

What are the options for another round somewhere in the area on Sunday before heading home?

The Country Club Inc. in Morristown about a 30 minute drive from Holston is a must see in my opinion.  I think it has be toughest greens in the state.  Its a Langford and really a hidden gem not many people know about.  I can set it up if some people are interested.

I would love to play; I would be coming from Atlanta, please let me know if anyone would like to ride with me.  My brother may come with me as he is a graduate of Tennessee if that is okay.

Could I come?

Count me in as a maybe.  I am planning a trip to Atlanta and Chattanooga around then and would love to take the time to come up.  Holston is one of my favorite Ross courses.

I look forward to seeing everyone.  Everything should be in great shape at the start of December.  You can count me in as the SEC championship is out of the picture now it seems.

I am curious to see what everyone thinks of the latest tree removals, and the rebuilt bunker on the 14th hole.  If you remember there were some previous post discussing the loss of the large oak tree on our par three 14th hole.  We ended up removing a lot of trees on this hole along with reshaping the bunker a bit.  Bruce Heppner was in town for a few days and did the shaping himself along with some of the guys on the staff here.

We are also in the process of adding more fescue areas as each Fall we try to expand the reach of the taller grasses.

Thanks for setting things up Eric and look forward to seeing all.

I've been dying to play Holston Hills ever since I layed eyes on the pics in Ran's post...

however it would be an 8 1/2 hour drive from Chicago or a $250 plane ticket, neither of which sound like too much fun.

I will keep it on my radar, it sounds like it would be a blast; especially with the added bonus of meeting a ton of GCAers.  Thanks for the invite Eric!

George

George - You should be able to fly to Nashville on SW for less than $140.

This is one of the great courses in America.

Joey

Joey,

Isn't Nashville about 2.5 hours from Holston Hills?  Is there a group going from Nashville to the course Sat morn?

Thanks for the help

Re adding fescue each fall. Is the intent to make the course narrower and more difficult or just being done for aesthetic purposes?  If the former what is the push to make it narrower?

To any / all:

I will be driving up and back from Nashville that day and can carry three others.  If more than that need a lift, I'd be willing to rent a van.

Regarding tee times:

We will be making the tee times one week prior to the day of play, per club policy.

After speaking to our Golf Professional this morning, he's informed me that we will be utilizing crossover tee times on that day, so my previous idea of a noon start won't work.  The crossover times end at 10:30, so we will try to make the last groups' times around 10:30 off of both #1 and #10.  Depending on the # of players, we may need to stagger some of the times.  So if you prefer to go off early or later let me know and we'll attempt to reserve the necessary tee times.

Thanks!

Thanks to the members and Ryan for making this possible.  Those tee times will require a 5:30 a.m. Nashville departure as Knoxville is in the Eastern time zone.  No problem here but just noting for any possible riders.

Hopefully the earlier time will permit fellowship after play at a location to be determined with time left over for the drive home.  FWIW, I'm a dependable designated driver.

"Fellowship after play at a location to be determined"

I love this line and I am going to start using it when I tell my wife I will be home 3-4 hours after I am done playing 18 holes.  I can't wait for this event - I live in Knoxville so 10:30 in the morning is perfect for me and I have made some calls to other HH members to see if they want to play with us that day.

That's right.  About 2.5 - easy 3.

I wish I could join y'all.  Unlike Ryan - I'll will be in Hotlanta for the SEC championship.  That is...if we win one of our last three games.

Remember that I-40 through downtown Knoxville is closed.

If coming from Nashville (I-40) or Chattanooga (I-75),     take  I-640 eastbound, around downtown, unless you are familiar with the downtown area and the backroads to Holston Hills.

See you there.    If you need directions at the last minute on Saturday morning,  golf shop number is  865-525-0626
