Holston Hills December 6 - GCA Gathering - Ice Bowl 2008
« on: November 06, 2008, 02:24:54 PM »
We're planning a year-end GCA gathering at Holston Hills CC (a 1927 Donald Ross course) on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Courtesy of Ran's profile found here:  http://www.golfclubatlas.com/holstonhills1.html

I spoke to our superintendent and he's in for Saturday, Dec. 6, unless the Vols somehow make it to Atlanta.  :D

John Mayhugh will be in town, plus another couple of members are playing so we can accommodate several guests.  Thank you guys!

The fees are $65 to walk, $80 to ride.

With 18 signed up, we'll go 4,4,4,3,3.  We can do pairings in the morning as some will want to walk, some will want to ride.

Tee times:

10:34 #1

10:42 #1

10:42 #10

10:50 #10

10:58 #10

Also, some of the traveling GCA'ers are staying here:

Crowne Plaza - Summit Hill
which is located 10 minutes from Holston and best of all it's downtown within walking distance to our post-golf watering hole / restaurant.

http://www.thecrownandgoose.com - an authentic London gastropub with a very nice bar and excellent food.

both games will be on the screens -

SEC Championship Game kickoff @ 4PM

Big 12 Championship Game kickoff @ 8PM

Thanks!

If you'd like a travel buddy from Houston I'm pretty interested in making the trip.

Bogey,

Glad you're heading back to Ktown!

Mike Nuzzo,

If you come I'd love for you to stop and see the farm if time permits, perhaps Sunday if you stay overnight.  I live exactly halfway between Nashville Int'l Airport (BNA) and Holston Hills in Knoxville, so you'd be driving I-40 right by the exit.  Knoxville Airport (TYS) is only 20-25 minutes drive, but you'd have to connect through ATL or CLT most likely.

Wait, since Bogey's picking you up, may as well pick me up as you head through Cookeville and I'll bring some local peach moonshine.  Then we'll end up throwing darts at Toddy's and blow off the golf.

Matt,

Could you coordinate Trevino's next site visit to Rarity Club and bring him to Holston to play with us?  ;)  THAT would be awesome! - you can make that happen can't you?

If Jay would make the drive, I can definitely tell him how to get here, at least from Baltimore, as I'm fairly familiar with that route all of a sudden.  ;D

It's also about 2.5 hours from Lexington, KY and a little under 3.5 from Louisville, KY.  I could give you a ride from either one of those.

Eric,

Please bring an affadavit that a vehicular radiator was not utilized in the making of said moonshine.  I value my sight.

I've been dying to play Holston Hills ever since I layed eyes on the pics in Ran's post...

however it would be an 8 1/2 hour drive from Chicago or a $250 plane ticket, neither of which sound like too much fun.

I will keep it on my radar, it sounds like it would be a blast; especially with the added bonus of meeting a ton of GCAers.  Thanks for the invite Eric!

Eric,

You bring the peach and I will bring some Grape and Apple Pie.  We will have plenty to go around so that any GCA guys can have a pull off the good stuff kind of like TN Egg Nog.

This shine is pure liquid gold and I have been drinking it for years going all the way back to my days at UT.  Whenever I feel a cold coming on I open the jar take a few sips and its gone.  No need for flu shots when you got this stuff it goes down smooth with a little kick on the end.

We are playing golf at Holston Hills unless we have snow on the ground.  We can all go Toddy's after the sun goes down at 5:30 that afternoon tell stories and have a few drinks.

Trevino lives in Texas that would be fun but, I doubt he can make it.  I am working on a group of guys to play with us at Holston Hills.

Count me in.   Frost delay is the only minor issue.

FYI,   419 bermuda fairways are now dormant as is the common bermuda rough.

I think we have several GCA guys up in the Bristol / SWVA / Roanoke area that might be interested in playing at Holston Hills on 12/6.  Calling Ed, Bart, Wade, all the VT / UVA guys bring it down to Knoxvlle and after we are done playing we can go watch football games and have dinner and drinks.

Alas - My wife has dibs on being out of town that weekend, so I will be parenting that Saturday.  Thanks for the offer.  I'm committed to finding some way to make it to Holston before 2015 - it just didn't work out this year.

George - You should be able to fly to Nashville on SW for less than $140.

This is one of the great courses in America.

I've only seen one that really stinks...but I seen a lot of really good ones...
