Atlanta GCAers?
« on: October 31, 2008, 01:31:51 PM »
I will be traveling to Atlanta for a conference Nov. 7-11th.  I'd love to meet any of you for a drink or dinner just to put some faces with the names.

BEEP...

This is not an access request...I repeat...this is not an access request (If it had been an actual access request, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area to allow me to golf).. ;)..this concludes our test of the access broadcast system.

Best,

Bart

Bart -

I will be in Atlanta the following week. Too bad it couldn't have been the same time. I think I am hitting the Peachtree restoration too.

Lavonia has taken over for Beulah at The Waffle House. Apparently Beulah is distraught that you haven't been back recently. I leave you to stew in your own conscience.

Bob

You're a cold man, Bob Crosby. For all your southern grace and charm, you have a cold, cold heart -- to what worse thing can you condemn a man than to stew in his own conscience?

Do you know what the great jazz saxophonist Lester Young called policemen? He called them "Bob Crosbys". He was once busted by a cop who looked a lot like Bing's brother Bob, the bandleader. Thereafter, whenever he sensed the law around he'd say "Watch it - a couple of Bob Crosbys just walked in".

What's there in a name, huh? Until today I would have thought nothing.....

Bart - funny post. Wish I was a Atlanta GCAer.

Bob, perhaps Beulah has been summoned to Nashville by the bankrupty court:

There is no joy in Nashville :'(

Peter - Is that a true story about Lester Young and Bob Crosby? I am deeply impressed with anyone who remembers Bob Crosby and the Bobcats. I used to watch his TV show in the afternoons after school. Until they took him off the air for trying to stab his wife with a letter opener. Sounded like nothing more than good natured horseplay to me, but others didn't see it that way, I guess.

Michael - The Waffle House filing is no doubt related to Tommy's absence from the area. Doesn't he have a fiduciary duty or something? How could he have let this happen?

Bart,
I'll be out of the ATL area during most of that time for a class reunion in NC.  The rest of it is occupied past non-DST hours with work.  If you need any recommendations for a place to try to play, IM me.

Bat,am in town that time period...just dont know where.....im if around....

Bob C- yes, a true story. In Lester's words, he had "no eyes" for Bob Crosbys. But man, I wish you hadn't told me about the other Bob Crosby (the non gca loving one). The Bobcats in the early 40s were terrific - with a clarinet player, Irving Fazoola, who was apparently a slob as a person but who had the most gorgeous tone...

"Irving Fazoola" is a real name?  ;) Details please as to the nature of his sleaziness.

Yes, the homespun public personae (please note the correct plural usage) of the Crosby boys, both Bing and Bob, was belied by a range of private peccadilloes. I feel compelled to note that I am not related. ;)

I have no idea how this relates to my trip to ATL...please could you guys stick to my somewhat dubious topic ;)...so far I have some nice recommendations on where to play golf....but no chance to meet any of you nuts...Isn't there any ATL area folks that will be around at that time...I'll even buy the first couple of rounds.
