NY Times North Berwick Article

Is it really? I know the locals pronounce Gullane "Gillan" but I don't think I've ever heard this pronunciation of North Berwick

The way I heard it said locally, the "w" is silent.

Having spent quite a bit of time there the past three years, I think all of my associates would concur that the local pronunciation is "North BEAR-ick".

Depending on if you like to spell like Tom or Rihc, both are right.  I'll go for Bare (gotta keep the silent e cause Brits lovem')-icke (why not chuck another silent e in?)

Smithwick's Irish red ale is the same, drop the W. Correction pronunciation is either "Smithick's" or "All Mass-Produced American Beer Sucks."
