Tom,
The Philly Syndrome is not something I profess to completely understand. My take on this can be described simply as the 30 minutes prior to Dave Miller  arriving at Aronomink.I could have engaged in a futile attempt to create a golf swing or pursue other worthwhile objectives. Understandibly both myself and Paul were relegated to rating the quality of bikini ware lounging by the pool .  Aronomink scored quite well in this regard. I'm certain both Gulph Mills and Merion's finest could hold their own if they had a stage upon which to perform. Is this a Philly Syndrome? ;)

"Is this a Philly Syndrome?  ;D"

No Sir, Jack, the "Philadelphia Syndrome" is nothing more than this preposterous label by Mr. Thomas MacWood from Ivory Tower, Ohio, who has been nowhere and knows noone that Philadelphians are super defensive and protective of their architect "Legends" in some attempt to quash the credit and influence on some of our courses of a few people who had somewhere between little to nothing to do with them.

The "Philadelphia Syndrome" is his constant excuse to deflect our pointing out how illogical and inaccurate he is to do with some of the real histories of some of these courses and their architecture.

Tom,
Methinks the Philly Syndrome could be described as  penis envy! ;) Should the good folk from Ohio chose to broaden their horizons, a trip to Philly would open their minds and hearts to the goodness of golfing humanity. Reminds me of the epic battles between Holmes/Dr. Watson Vs. The evil Moriarty and his accomplices. Hmm , does Wayne smoke a pipe?

Philadelphia's Buddy Marucci is in the finals against New York's George Zahringer of the US Senior Amateur at Shady Oaks CC in Fort Worth Texas.

Zahringer is an old warhorse, many time Walker Cupper and a good guy but I'm pulling for Philly and Merion's Walker Cup captain Buddy Marucci.

Zahringer has won a USGA championship and Buddy hasn't. Buddy did get to the finals of the US Amateur at Newport in 1995 at the USGA's Centennial championship but he had the championship stolen from him on the 36th hole by his opponent who knocked his approach shot about two feet on the last hole and won it there.

What was that guy's name? It sounded a bit like a wild animal in the trees or something. What the hell did he ever do before or since to deserve to steal that 1995 championship from Philly's Buddy Marucci?

Tommy:
I was at Shady Oaks as a Rules Official and actually had two of Buddy's matches.  He played extremely well and really ground out some impressive victories over three really good players.
It was just a great Championship and the folks at Shady Oaks could not have been nicer or treated the players and the officials any better.
Best
Dave
