Handy phrase book for OT political threads
« on: September 17, 2008, 10:20:17 PM »
I've recently avoided the OT political threads because, well, they're a waste of time.  But I note there's another 9-pager going just now and for those of you who are compelled, I thought it would be simpler to have a reliable "OT political thread phrase book" that you can use instead of laboriously typing out the crap--I mean, learned commentary.

The posts on those threads seem to follow a formula--identify a problem, blame someone or an institution, pontificate on the sole solution to the problem, then insult everyone who disagrees with your learned commentary.  The same old crap seems to come up over and over again.

Now you can enjoy the OT threads using this tool to express yourself in shorthand and avoid injury to your golf wrists.  I've tried to be fair to all sides, but doubtless have left out some oft-employed wisdom and offended someone, so suggest additions if you think it necessary!  Have fun!

Eric:

Thanks for your guide.

Let's see, my last name is d-o-a-k, so:

For the decline in housing values, I blame the greedy oil companies.  The only solution is a massive bailout.  Anyone that doesn't agree with me is living on another planet!

Last name B-E-R-T

For terrorism, I blame the Supreme Court.  In my opinion, the only solution is to ban abortion.  Anyone that doesn't agree with me doesn’t understand that “liberty's in jeopardy” and “freedom don’t come free.”

...and not to be critical of your list, but I didn't see the option of 'moving to Sweden' presented as one of the solutions on list 3.   ??? ???

Also, isn't Ran supposed to be an option on list #2 for taking blame?  ;)

Tom Doak,

(M)F**k you and the horse you rode in on. (O) You would love it if the terrorists took over.  (R) Muslims caused this (I) pestilent (A) global warming. (R) Muslims also caused (T) failing social security, and (Y) we all know where that highway goes.

If your last name is more than four letters, can you loop around to the top again, as in;

For (C) precipitous drops in the stock market, I blame (I) Wall Street.   In my opinion, the only solution is to (R) Ban Abortion and anyone who doesn't agree with me (B) Misses the Point entirely for (A) Global Warning.

For the high cost of gasoline, I blame Wall Street.  The only solution is to accept Jesus Christ as your savior, and anyone who disagrees with me is a mouthpiece for the right.

For China's inevitable superiority, I blame greedy oil companies.  The only solution is to ban all abortion, and anyone who disagrees with me believes all the liars!

Conveniently, my last name is another four letter word.

high interest rates
Wall Street
ban abortion
clearly living on another planet

Tough combo.  Like bad I Ching cards.  If interest rates were high, I'd blame Wall Street, but anyone who wants to ban abortion is clearly living on another planet.

For high tuition costs, I blame Wall Street. IMO, the only solution is to send your money to me, and anyone who doesn't agree with me is living on another planet.

Mike Cirba, you ought to try your first name:

For the high cost of groceries, I blame Wall Street, and IMO, the only solution is no taxes, and anyone who doesn't agree with me is a fool and talks nonsense.

That pretty much sums up your position, no? ;)

You fellows have figured out how to string totally incoherent random thoughts together, just like they do on the big OT threads!  Awesome!

Those threads are sleep-inducing, so maybe the answer is zzzz

For all my problems, I blame myself, and the only solution is two bathtubs and a bottle of Cialis, am I right? am I wrong?

wow - THIS is funny!

I once saw something similar to help you name a CCFAD.  It involved an action verb and a tree or meat-eater, if I recall.

Something like "Running Oaks" or "Crouching Lion".
