You guys need some nicknames.....
« on: September 14, 2008, 09:29:27 AM »
A friend of mine is a railroad engineer, and he relayed a common name for railfans who stand trackside to ogle the trains - "foamers" - for foaming at the mouth when they see a train.

Does that name fit for hard core golf architecture junkies? ;)  If not, what other suggestions do we have?

Of course, we already have the Doak Butt boys as a subcategory, and I suppose for those interested in Merion, I propose the "Merionettes."   ;)

But, what would be a good nickname for those rabid fans of gca, in general? Archonistas?

Sorry, but my mind works this way before coffee....... ::)

How about MARIO MUCCI for the subset of posters who race around golf courses in golf carts at NASCAR level speed. Thus, missing many ingenious architectural features inherent at some of the greatest of golf courses, golf courses such as the beloved Sand Hills Golf Club.

The answer is "wing nuts," since "Trekkies" has been taken. But why do you ask, Frenchy (Drain)?

Gotta go -- my parents want to clean the basement!

Jef --

I don't know how you can beat "foamers." That's a beauty.

(Those who've lost the fascination would be, in your neck of the plains, "fo'mer foamers.")

I thought of "bunkerheads."

And then I thought of Archie Bunker.

And then I thought: "Archie Bunker" would have been the perfect name for a fictional golf-course architect -- presuming there was any call for such a creature.

Sorry, but this is the way my mind "works" after coffee.

Sorry, I just got back from the neighborhood Dragon-Con meeting. Waaay cool, btw. Got a little gargoyle 'too on my left arm. Special discount for members. Learned a new way to spike my new blue 'do. My roommate likes it and is doing his hair the same way. Will post the pictures.

So, like, what was the question?

I joined up with the Hash House Harriers in Chang Mai, Thailand, many years ago.....but was inducted as a member of the Atlanta branch of the 3HHH and my nickname was Bushman [go figure...but take the high road].

....not that this means anything....but it does give me a chance to see if there are any other HHH's out there.

Does anyone else have a random thought that they would care to share with us?

In the early stages during the last decade the treehouse was  the "Anti-Crappers".

Slowly but surely we have evolved into ... into... Uncle Martin.  ;)

Not a member, but a good buddy is.  I drank with them after a hash last weekend and it is making me think that running and drinking might be fun.

Of course, my friend loves to talk about hitting the beer stops during marathons but that is just beyond the pale for me.

Slightly O my own T, but if TD did do a course in the Sooner state, would it be called Doaklahoma National? And if he remodeled that famous course in Edmond, would they rename it Doak Tree?

How long will it be until we have a course named "Doakland Hills?"

I want to know when we will see Urbina Champaign CC.  Has any other super star given an associate marque billing like we finding with Doak/Urbina.
