Province lake in Maine

I played a course in Maine Called Province lake, The front nine was designed by a L.Van Etten in 1918,  was he a architect of note back then? I'm not familiar with the name.

He was. Among his other early designs (all of which have been revised/redesigned):

Deal
Wykagyl
Knollwood
Split Rock

and I believe, Greenwich Country Club

 The back nine a province lake is so totally different from the front, it is like playing a second course.
