At 1:00 today, I watched the second half of BC #17  vs Virginia Tech #24 for the ACC Championship. As a BC grad, I had an interest in the game. BC got smoked.

At 4:00, I watched Florida#2 vs Alabama #1. Just an awesome game, great talent, drama and execution.

In golf architecture, I feel the same way. The Top5 simply blow away the rest.

I have never played Chicago or WS and would never pass up a trip to Cypress or PV over Chicago or WS.

Thoughts?

Personally, while respecting the qualities of many courses, I really don't go out of my way to play anymore.
BUT>>>I have a good friend who will fire off a late invite to join him at Cypress every so often.
It never fails to excite me, and actually will usually re inspire an all to often, missing golf game.
On these trips, I have played MPCC and Pebble, but nothing seems to get me in a  "golf" mindset like CPC

Mike,    I hope you will always jump to play PV and CPC. I have always enjoyed my visits to CGC and it is truly one of the great old clubs but the above mentioneds are a slightly different level.  As far as Whistling Straits is concerned , I can think of 50 courses in the US i would rather play and at least 15 in Ireland that I prefer for a true links experience. But to each their own.                   Jack

The most important question is if you watched the Big 12 Title Game?

Pat, how do you think the pros would score at CPC, if they still held the Crosby there?

Mark Chaplin

Chicago Golf Club has some fantastic holes set within an enclosed property without views. The beauty is entirely within the hole you are playing. It is a very special place to play golf and I feel very priviliged to have teed up there.

In someways it is similar to Royal Cinque Ports which has no tall dunes, stunning views or shots across a bay or clifftop, again the pleasure is all within the confines of the property.

Florida was ranked #4 in the BCS and #2 in the AP. They're ranked #1 in the AP now...

Jim, pretty low.  The last two times I played there I shot no gimme 66's.  I would be pretty short by any tour standards, and with wide corridors, the par fives would get shredded.  The greens, even in there "struggles" (by CPC standards :)) seem to always roll so well that putts could be made.  In a Crosby, they also would not use some of the more difficult pins due to the amateur partners, so that defense is limited.  I would say though, that I would be very surprised that virtually the entire field would still prefer it over Poppy, not for the low scoring, but just because it IS Cypress.
As far as numbers go, probably see a good number of 64's, and some lower :(
