I just received my copy from Sleeping Bear Press and it appears to be just as interesting as his Golf Clubs of the MGA.
Lots to look at and study - a very fine chapter on Engineer's Club, hole by hole analysis on Bethpage and NGLA, Shinnecock's evolution is explored, Timber Point and Lido receive their due, new courses such as Easthampton and Bahto's Stonebridge have well-done profiles, the list goes on and on. In short, from R.I.P. courses to new courses, Quirin covers it all.
Any book on Long Island golf that showcases such courses as Garden City GC, Piping Rock, The Creek, and Maidstone is obviously going to appeal to many on this site. And Quirin's writing and observations don't let you down - for instance, he notes that Travis's Eden version at GCGC is surely the finest in the country, surpassing any done by Macdonald/Raynor. In addition to the text, there is a healthy mix of b&w and color photos (the one of the 3rd hole at Easthampton in particular is a stunner
).
I look forward to getting stuck into this book this weekend - it's $55 well spent.
Cheers,
