Project Runway - Golf Course Architects

If you were given the task of designing an outfit for a golf architects, living or dead, for an important interview...how would you dress them for a playing interview?  Please include golf accessories as well including shoes, clubs, golf bag, balls, tees and any other detail that you may feel would influence a client.

Even with a guys like Fazio or Rees, do you use their ties to Pine Valley and NGLA or do you go with an original design?  Should Nicklaus wear his shirt from the 86 Masters?  It's gotta be tough with the closets full of free gear these guys must have laying around.

Are you telling me that when interviewing an architect which courses he represents would not be a factor in your choice.  Using Doak as an example...Think of the different images projected by carrying a bag from these likely candidates:  Crystal Downs, Pacific Dunes, Sebonack or Cape Kidnappers.

Jeff,

You are one of the architects I have played with and while I remember talking about the logo's you were wearing and sporting on your golf bag I don't recall which courses they were.  Are you going to tell me that you do not consider the image you project during an interview.  I know there is a school that believes that architects, like physics professors, look smarter when disheveled and many sport hair longer than the norm.  Kind of Frank Lloyd Wright meets Einstein.  What is your opinion?

John,
Wouldn't they wear what anybody wears to an interview - a nice, conservative, well-fitting suit?

I think men quit wearing suits for playing interviews soon after the great depression.

Anything from the J Peterman catalog would suffice.
You'd make a fine little helper. What's your name?

JK,

In all seriousness, I missed your "playing" interview concept.  Oddly, its probably a worthy subject, although for me and the other gca's here, but not perhaps the others.

I do consider what I wear to interviews, playing interviews, first meetings, etc.  First, I would never wear shorts, no matter how hot.

Second, I admit that I do consider if a particular logo on a golf shirt might send a certain message.  I usually wear logos of my own courses, or perhaps one that might help stir some discussion.  Cowboys is always a good one for that.  A Masters shirt, Scottish shirt (TOC) or shirt from any recent major might also do the same.  I gather its says I am "golfy."  (yes, thats supposed to be an "L" and not 2 "O's" ;)

Just from looking around at those kind of pre-proposal meetings, I think most gca's wear their own logos.  I always wondered if Doak wears shirts from classic old courses when he meets a client......it would perhaps signal his interest in classic courses?

I hear Paul Cowley wears Kilts and no underwear! ;)

And, Forrest Richardson often shows up without hair! ;D

John,

A tucked in shirt would seem to suffice.

Cheers,

Nice, Jordan, a wee bit of self deprecating humor.  I like!

I want to hire a guy with muddy boots, old blades with worn out grips, playing an old balata in decent shape, and a terrier that scoots his butt on the rug and growls if you try to pet him.  Now that's an archie you can believe in! ;D
