Long Shot -- La Plata, Argentina
« on: August 25, 2008, 12:09:20 PM »
This may be a long shot, but what the heck.  There's a decent chance that I'll be living in or near La Plata, Argentina -- a medium-sized city about an hour southeast of Buenos Aires -- for six or seven months, beginning in January.  I should have a fair amount of time for golf, so does anyone know anything about golf in La Plata?  I'm pretty familiar with the better courses in Buenos Aires, but they may be too distant to play very regularly.  Thanks in advance.
Carl

I assume La Plata is near Mar del Plata. It is a very old seaside course which was the class of S. America at one time. I believe Willie Park's brother Mungo was involved with the design.

Thanks Tom, but they are actually about 3 hours apart, notwithstanding the similarity of their names.

Carl, do yourself a favor and plan a couple of long weekends every month in Buenos Aires.  Great city, great food and wine, and some good golf from what I've been told.

What is going on in La Plata?  ??? ;D

Bill--
I agree about Buenos Aires -- terrific city.
As for La Plata, my wife was born there.  We are contemplating taking an extended vacation of sorts to Argentina, with La Plata as our home base because of her extended family.  I am hoping to find a local golf course/club where I can play when we're there.

Have fun - I'm jealous - Argentina is a wonderful country, lovely and friendly people.

Except for the polizia who were bashing some protesters outside the Casa Rosada downtown!
