$13,000,000 buys you a Seth Raynor

I was reading the Globe and Mail on the plane a few weeks back - OK a month ago - and noticed that Thousand Islands Club was up for sale. The course is reputed to be designed by Seth Raynor – but after visiting last year I was left wondering how true that was. There was an alps like par five the was pretty cool and a couple of punchbowl greens that were terrific, but a lot of fairly plain holes as well.

The course is owned by the original founder of Sobe Drinks. When I met him last year, I can't say he was in the golf business because he wanted to be - he was in it because he sort had to be. He bought it to stop it from being closed and broken up for real estate and has continued to operate the course since. I'm guessing that he's got tired of doing so and decided to part with the course.

being a raynor fan i have asked a number of people how much raynor is actually intact - and have been told - not much.  decided it was not worth the drive. too bad - perhaps there are original plans somewhere - pretty remote location for $13,000,000

I this sells for $13MM put it on the NLE list.  I think I paid about $50 near the top of the very short season about 10 years ago.

Not much Raynor is left, my understanding was it was 9 hole of Raynor and later modified.  I would be hard pressed to say there were 9 Raynor holes but the beginning of the back nine and end of the front nine were most likely his.  My memory is poor at best as there was not much here to get excited about.

Her e-mail sent to everyone offers the site (maybe 350 acres) for "925 millions of dollars" LOL

Funny stuff. the site is worth about $80 million in todays market and the girl is serious about the 925 mil...

I'm pretty sure you can buy the entire state north of Albany for less than $13,000,000.

Probably would be difficult to pay even $1.3 million and operate at a profit

There are two golf courses, a marina, hotel, building sites, etc., that are part of the TICC. I wouldn't be able to comment on the practicality of 13mil for the site(at least a few hundred acres), but you could easily spend 1/2 mil. to 1 1/2mil.  for a house on Wellesley Island that is on or near the water.
